IST PRECISION is Hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager Near Mooresville, NC

  • This position in is Mooresville, NC just north of Charlotte, NC.

IST Precision Inc. is a machine design and manufacturing company established in 2001 in North Carolina that focuses in industrial automation equipment. We have our own dedicated fabrication shop, machine designer group, controls group and panel shop. We are seeking a full-time Engineering Manager to lead the company's industrial automation team as we grow and expand to support more customers.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing, leading, and developing a team of machine designers, programmers, and electrical engineers. The team is responsible for the design and development of various machinery and tooling projects, from small R&D tasks to large scale production lines. This leader should have an excellent engineering foundation and a track record of successfully leading and integrating large-scale automation and robotics technology implementations.

The Engineering Manager will work with other members of the leadership team, project management, and the team to deliver integrated and functional solutions to customers. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, as well as 10 years of experience in industrial automation. The Engineering Manager must have strong leadership and management skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. Strong technical skills in machine design are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers. This includes mechanical designers, electrical designers, and controls programmers.
  • Build and develop the skillset of the engineering team. This can be done through trainings, mentorship, and other development opportunities.
  • Oversee and manage engineering budgets and schedules. This includes ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement refined processes, procedures, and best practices for the engineering department. This will help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
  • Manage and plan resources. This includes managing contractors, overseeing hiring and onboarding of new engineers, and ensuring that the team has the resources they need to complete their work.
  • Coordinate with other management and leadership. This includes communicating with other departments, stakeholders, and customers to ensure that projects are completed successfully.
  • Work with and manage external suppliers. This includes finding and vetting suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with suppliers.
  • Work with customers to refine requirements and align on project requirements. This includes understanding customer needs, developing project plans, and managing expectations.
  • Review machine designs. This includes ensuring that designs meet customer requirements, are safe, and are manufacturable.
  • Have a solid mechanical design background. This is essential for understanding and reviewing machine designs.

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams.
  • At least 8-10 years of experience in a design role in an industrial automation and/or machine building environment.
  • Demonstrated talent and track record in automation and/or machine design.
  • Ability to size and specify actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals.
  • Broad knowledge of materials and fabrication processes (machining, welding, etc.) and experience designing for manufacturability.
  • Familiarity with controls and software concepts (e.g., PLC, VB, HMIs).
  • Experience with change management, revision control, non-conformances, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of automation technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, and sensors.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience:

· At least 5-8 years leading projects or managing engineering teams.

· Demonstrated experience with performance management

· Experience implementing or working within ISO 9001

· Experience using SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD software

· Understanding of GD&T, Y14.5M-2009

· Bachelor’s degree (BS) or higher in engineering field

· Understanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 compliance

· Experience in tooling design

· Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment
