Description

Purpose

Assists in maintaining standards of student discipline and ensuring the observance of rules and procedures by students and others on a school campus and at bus loading points at the direction of a school administrator or teacher.

The Campus Aide Custodian may be assigned to work in one or more of the following areas and will be cross trained in all duty areas listed below. Principal will assign tasks and schedule.

Janitorial Job Duties

•Clean classrooms, offices and other facilities of an assigned school during an assigned shift; sweep and mop floors, vacuum rugs and carpets in classrooms, offices, workshops, MPR rooms, bathrooms, lunch areas, and other work areas.
•Lock gates and windows
•Dust and Polish Furniture
•Empty and Clean the classroom trashcans 
•Refill dispensers
•Cleaning and maintaining outdoor areas
•Pick up paper and debris around grounds
•Maintain Positive Relationships with Students and Staff
•Occasional Student Supervision
•Occasional Scanning of Lunches.

Sanitizing and Facility Maintenance

•Wipe down high touch surface in common areas and restrooms (Light switches, doorknobs, faucets, flushing mechanism, partition doors) (schedule to be set by principal). 
•After School - wipe down desks and chairs of classrooms to be used for after school.
•Sweeps and maintains front office and high traffic areas throughout the day.
•Assists Facilities Maintenance Technician as needed.

Meal Service Duties: 

• Serve breakfast to students
• Wipe down food bags and carts
• Cover classrooms during nutrition/lunch (as applicable)
• Prepare for Lunch in the classroom
• Serve lunch to students
• Bag and Empty trash after lunch in the classroom
• Wipe down food bags and carts
• Complete meal tally sheet and turn in to SOM.
• Tear down, clean up and sweep meal distribution area.
•Wipe down student meal tables before meal service and then between each group of students.
•Clean up after each group of students, sweep meal service area and bag and empty trash.
•After final meal service for the day, return service tables and meal service equipment to appropriate storage location.
•Maintain meal service equipment including refrigerator.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Yard Supervision

•Set up morning student drop off and afternoon student pick-up, i.e., cones, vests, sweep school entrance.
•Clear drop off or pick-up equipment and lock entry gates.
•Patrols school corridors, locker rooms, rest rooms, assembly and athletic facilities, gymnasiums, bus-loading areas, and other campus locations in order to observe student behavior and prevent violations or unsafe activities.
•Complete student incident reports.
•Report all threats to health and safety, and incidents of misbehavior to the proper school authority.
•Dismissal support.
•Respond to all alarms, security situations, breaches, maintenance problems, and fire and building hazards. Document all events previously listed.
•Direct students and others and take action, as necessary, to prevent injury to persons or damage to property.
•Manage the playground and meal areas during student breakfast, recess and lunch breaks.
•Assist school administrators in contacting parents regarding students with behavioral problems and in discussing campus security with parent and community groups.
•Assist a certificated employee in supervising students during field trips and special events.
•Ensure that school property is secure and locked when appropriate.
•Provide safety escorts for student, staff, faculty, and guests when requested.
•Direct campus visitors to the appropriate parties and prevent unlawful loitering.
•Deliver, set up, lay out, or collect equipment and other materials. 
•Complete all documentation and reports as established by school site personnel.
•Paint over graffiti as necessary.
•Bag and dispose of trash in trash bin.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


CLASS QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
Safety rules and procedures to be observed by students
Standards of courtesy and behavior expected of students
Adolescent development and problems
Vocabulary and usage of terms common to youth in the area served by the school

Ability to:
Establish good relations with individual students and groups
Communicate orally with District staff, parents, and students
React quickly and appropriately in emergencies
Operate two-way radio equipment
Work effectively with District personnel, students, parents, the public, and others

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

Physical and Environmental Elements:

This position may include long periods of sitting or standing in an environment with moderate noise levels, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. This position is frequently required to stand, sit or walk, use hands and fingers and reach with arms.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read printed materials and a computer screen with ability to adjust focus.
Communication skills required by this job include the ability to hear and speak.
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries items that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The position requires the ability to occasionally travel by train, plane, or other means inside and outside of the Los Angeles area. May have occasional exposure to irate parents, staff, and public and private representatives.

Hours: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm (30 minute lunch)

Compensation: $17.88 - $27.04
