Director of Learning and Professional Development

Purpose Statement: 

The Director of Learning and Professional Development is responsible for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in teaching and learning. The Director leads the development of innovative educational strategies, curricula, and professional development programs aimed at achieving results, enhancing student achievement and teacher effectiveness. The Director works collaboratively with educators, administrators, and stakeholders to ensure that the district’s instructional practices meet the diverse needs of all students. 

Qualifications:

1. Possess a Master’s Degree or its equivalent, in a related field

2. Hold current Arizona PreK-12 teaching and Principal certification

3. Minimum of three (3) years of effective classroom teaching experience

4. Minimum of three (3) years of effective school administration experience

5. Minimum of three (3) years of effective district administration experience, preferred

6. Knowledgeable in the laws and regulations regarding public education

7. Knowledge of state content standards and professional learning standards

8. Experience in urban schools/district, preferred

9. Experience in with Instructional Leadership Teams, preferred

10. Experience designing and leading professional development and coaching programs, preferred

11. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form

12. Ability to take initiative and work effectively in a collaborative team environment

13. Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

• Develop and oversee a comprehensive professional development program for teachers and staff, academic coaches, strategists, and instructional leaders aligned to professional learning standards.

• Lead the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the district's curriculum across all grade levels and subjects. Ensure alignment with state standards and educational best practices.

• Utilize data from student assessments and other sources to inform instructional practices and professional development. Lead efforts to analyze student achievement data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.

• Serve as an instructional leader and coach, providing guidance and support to schools in implementing effective teaching strategies, professional development, and improving student learning outcomes.

• Collaborate with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to promote a supportive learning environment and engage in meaningful dialogue about student learning and achievement.

• Ensure that all educational programs and professional development initiatives are equitable and inclusive, addressing the diverse needs of students and staff.

• Manage instruction and professional development, including the allocation of resources for materials, training, and other instructional support.

• Ensure that the district's educational programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations and policies. Provides advice on educational trends and policy matters.

• Perform personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives.

• Other duties as assigned.

Supervision: Director of Learning and Professional Development works under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Salary: Administrator Salary Schedule, Full Benefits, 12 months
