Applying knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology, and rules of English language to the transcription of dictation from creators with various dialects, accents and dictation styles.
Experience and Education: A minimum of one year’s experience in a medical office, clinic or other health care setting. Minimum of high school graduate or equivalent. Certified Medical Transcriptionist preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Must be able to accurately and productively transcribe medical dictation involving a range of medical specialties, be able to type a minimum of 55 words per minute, be proficient in correct English usage including grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure, be proficient in knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and medical terminology, excellent listening and verbal skills, excellent interpersonal skills needed to work cooperatively and productively with others. Knowledge of medical transcription practices and guidelines.
Ability To: Make a great first impression and sustain it; operate dictating/transcribing equipment; operate or learn to operate automated systems, electronic medical record software, personal computers and fax machines; employ tact, diplomacy and compassion with all types of people; communicate well irrespective of the medium; exhibit strong interpersonal skills; maintain cooperative relationships with staff members, patients and physicians; communicate clearly and concisely; process a variety of medical reports and correspondence; follow set outlines and be alert to variations and make decisions accordingly; persons working in this position must maintain organized and accurate records; exercise team coordination skills.
