Irene Wortham Center is Hiring a NcPreK Assistant Teacher Near Asheville, NC

Summary

Our five star developmental day early learning center is seeking an NCPreK qualified assistant. The teacher assistant will follow the lead teacher with executing instruction and evaluating students, while adhering to licensing, sanitation and NCPreK regulations. An NCPreK assistant teacher will have weekly planning time to work with the lead teacher on lesson planning, documentation and collection of supplies needed to implement high quality classroom instruction. Our NCPreK classrooms have one lead teacher, one NCPreK assistant teacher, and two additional assistant teachers with a ratio of 1 to 6. The classroom will serve typically developing children alongside children with disabilities, implementing IEP goals within the lesson plan.

Duties

1. Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.

2. Participates in daily and long-range lesson and activity planning.

3. Attend in-service training as mandated, and apply acquired knowledge in the day-to-day performance of the role. 

4. Remains knowledgeable of current Pre-K issues. 

5. Report any relevant changes noted in the student’s performance and any medical concerns to Lead Teacher.

6. Monitors student’s behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom, records on behavior logs, and assists with crisis prevention. 

7. Be aware of areas in which individuals require assistance, and give this assistance without direct supervision.

8. Provide basic first aid.

9. Follow Emergency Plan as needed.

10. Follow universal Precautions and OSHA Guidelines related to Exposure to Blood and Body Fluids.

11. Monitor individuals carefully and bring to the attention of the Lead Teacher any pertinent observations or concerns about individual health care needs.

12. Helps maintain individual records for each child monitoring development, and informing lead teacher of any concerns with a child’s development.

13. Promptly follow up on Lead Teacher instructions/recommendations.

14. Converse with students, using proper voice tone, tolerance and patience. And maintain zoning.

15. Have knowledge of individual’s rights and ensure that rights are respected.

16. Respect privacy and confidentiality of each student.

17. Attend staff meetings and contribute to problem identification and solution.

18. Demonstrate a working knowledge of NC Division of Child Development rules and regulations.

19. Seek out information needed to perform duties by following the proper chain of command.

20. Work closely with co-workers, and communicate information accurately.

21. Complete assigned tasks and, when needed, be willing to complete special tasks.

22. Provide daily direct care of students: changing diapers, cleaning, feeding or assist with feeding, and specific child plans.

23. Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.

24. Designated shifts may change due to enrollment times of children.

25. Other duties as assigned.
