Ipswich Public Schools is Hiring a Math Coach/Specialist K-5 Near Ipswich, MA

2024-2025 School YearPosition Title: Math Coach/Specialist K-5Location: Winthrop SchoolReports To: PrincipalFTE: 1.0 10 monthStart Date: August 26, 2024This teacher will provide instructional support and coaching to all K-5 teachers as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach their mathematical potential. The Elementary Math Coach is responsible for four main areas: a) observing instructional delivery and providing feedback to enhance and support the development of each math teacher's content area b) supporting teachers of math in the implementation of Illustrative Mathematics K-5 units and lessons for the development of their yearlong curriculum, c) analyzing data in order to modify curriculum and forms of assessment to meet students' needs, and d) working with the staff to support sharing of best practices. The Elementary Math Coach will work collaboratively with the Student Support Team to advise teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for struggling students. This may include modeling lessons in classrooms, helping teacher groups plan instruction, creating system-wide policies and procedures, leading family math workshops, and facilitating professional development.
The Math Coach may regularly teach a class or group of students as the school schedule demands. The Math Coach will plan summer and school year professional development for new and returning staff members aligned to high priority initiatives and outcomes in the area of mathematics. The Math Coach will support the development of high quality/effective math instruction, including observing and coaching elementary teachers to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, small-group instruction, and the use of data, assessment, and instructional technology. Work with teachers to refine and develop common standards-based pacing plans, mid-year and end of year common assessments for each grade level The Math Coach will serve as project lead for grants geared toward the improvement of math instruction Specific Qualifications: A Massachusetts Teaching Certificate, Bachelor's degree (required), Masters Degree (preferred).
At least 3 years of math teaching experience, preferably at different grade-levels. A deep understanding of content specific and general pedagogy, especially the Massachusetts Common Core Standards, and best practices in curriculum design and instruction. Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering professional development and experience with problem-based math lesson is a benefit.This applicant must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to foster positive working relationships. Must be able to interact with stakeholders at all levels (including all staff, parents, students, and community members) in a respectful manner.The Math Coach must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and have a working knowledge in using Google suite.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job.
