Position Title: English Language Learner (EL) Teacher for grades 9-12Location: Ipswich High SchoolFTE: 1.0 – School Year (10 Month)Dates: ‘24-’25 School Year (One year assignment for Maternity Leave)SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Building Principal and the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, the English Language Learner (EL) Teacher provides support for students who are identified as English Language Learners in a variety of settings including co-teaching, direct small group instruction, and consultation with classroom teachers. Reports To: Ipswich High School Building Principal, Director of Pupil/Personnel ServicesPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the essential job elements. Any combination of the job functions shown below may be performed. Essential FunctionsIdentify Multi-lingual/English language learner (EL) students using established district and state criteria.Develop, implement, monitor, evaluate, and, as appropriate, provide sound instructional programming to meet the individual needs of EL students.Collaborate regularly with each building's administrative teams on programming, data analysis, and instructional planning.Act as a resource for and work collaboratively with colleagues by developing and modeling sound instructional programs and strategies, identifying instructional resources, and providing professional development related to the needs of EL students.Communicate effectively with students, administrators, parents, school staff, and members of the school community. Provide multiple modes of communication for the families of EL students.Serve as a leader at the building level in ensuring adherence to the MA DESE Blueprint for Multilingual Learner SuccessContinue to maintain and improve professional competence.Maintain appropriate MA licensure as required.Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.Attend work regularly.Perform other duties as assigned by either building principal or director of pupil/personnel services.Additional Job FunctionsAttend staff and department meetings as agreed upon with each building principal.Maintain knowledge of software and equipment used to perform duties, such as student information systems, digital instructional tools, word processing, database, spreadsheets, e-mail, and office equipment.QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Training, and LicensureValid MA license in instruction for English as a Second LanguageAt minimum, hold a Bachelor's DegreeExperience working with English language learners at various age levels and diverse backgrounds preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSound knowledge of WIDA standards and "Can Do" indicatorsKnowledge of current teaching principles, practices, techniques and approachesKnowledge of assessment procedures and techniques, test construction, and evaluation methodsKnowledge of subject material, concepts and issues related to grade/subject of assignment.Familiarity and competence with student information software used for grading and attendanceKnowledge of instructional technologies and software, equipment, tools and devices used in presenting instruction, documenting assessments, and tracking student progressExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCultural competence to facilitate working with diverse familiesAbility to work collaborativelyExperience working with diverse learners and supporting culturally responsive practices preferredThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job.
