Description
Summary
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the mechanical engineering team to ensure all projects are effectively managed and executed to meet customer requirements. Completes their own projects as part of the overall project workload as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating drawings and bills of materials for projects as required. Delegates and provides direction to Mechanical Designers and Mechanical Engineers for project drawings and BOM's.
  • Project manager for all projects for the team. Schedules projects, provides estimate for time to completion and delivers status updates to management. Tracks and reports on engineering hours to budget. Communicates recommended actions to address variations to management.
  • Ensures the proper recording of the design history of the project and compliance to ISO and departmental standards.
  • Completes design validation, advanced engineering calculations, and evaluates design robustness in response to customer specifications for the project.
  • Offers creative, unique, and effective design solutions when presented with complex engineering challenges.
  • Responds to customer requests from both sales and aftermarket teams for a specific product or design. Analyzes information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system.
  • Attends kickoff and design review meetings for both new and aftermarket orders. Review key project goals and ensures engineers and designers understand the project requirements, scope of work, project plans and deadlines.
  • Continues to execute equipment design tasks in conjunction with lead responsibilities. Approximately 50/50 time split between design work (direct labor) and lead responsibilities (indirect labor)

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach, mentor and train others.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the impact of project goals and work done within projects and on other operations in the business.
  • Working knowledge of all product lines (i.e. BM, Titan, etc.) and order types (i.e. new equipment, retrofits, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Able to balance urgency with sensitivity to meet customer needs and budget implications.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to effectively present information to all required levels of the organization
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions as well as clearly articulate and explain their application to equipment design.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to understand and clearly explain all phases of equipment design including interactions outside of mechanical engineering scope (i.e. controls).
  • Demonstrated understanding of system operating requirements, safety risks and equipment and material limitations.
  • Excellent communications skills required in a team-oriented, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly proficient in understanding and utilizing business enterprise or MRP systems.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to clearly define problems, collect meaningful data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Education and Experience
  • B.S. in a technical area related to the responsibilities of this position from an accredited university (mechanical or industrial engineering preferred).
  • 10 years of mechanical equipment design, or a combination of education and experience relevant to the position.
  • High proficiency in utilizing Autodesk Products (Inventor, AutoCAD and Vault).
  • Experience using MS project or other project management software (preferred).
  • High proficiency in working with Syteline enterprise system (preferred).
