Iowa State University Foundation is Hiring a Director of Investment Operations Near Ames, IA

As a key member of the investments team, you will manage the investment operations of the ISU Foundation with direct responsibility for recording investment activity and managing asset allocation, while providing support for reporting and analysis, due diligence, and governance activities. You will also supervise investments office support staff.

Based on qualifications and experience, a selected candidate may hold one of these job titles: Director of Investment Operations or Senior Director of Investment Operations.

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review journal entries and reconciliations of investment statements and transactions.
  • Oversee investment activity in the foundation’s investment system.
  • Review investment pool unit values and prepare/review journal entries to distribute earnings to endowed funds on a quarterly basis.
  • Direct the flow of funds to and from managed investment accounts to maintain the proper allocation of investments in accordance with approved investment policies. Perform rebalancing of the pools on a quarterly basis or as needed.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and analysis for Foundation management, investment committee, board of directors, and others as needed. Contribute to the preparation of quarterly investment reporting for distribution to internal staff.
  • Assist with due diligence surrounding existing and prospective investment managers including documentation, performance and strategy monitoring, and attending manager meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with the assistant vice president of investments to create, report, and adjust as necessary the annual budget for the investments department.
  • Assist with the annual audit; prepare financial statement work papers, attend audit committee meetings, and collaborate with accounting staff and external auditor on investment-related activities.
  • Supervise office support staff. Handle personnel matters: hire, train, coach/mentor, supervise and evaluate, providing formal written feedback twice a year and conducting regular check-ins with staff focused both on current projects and tasks, as well as career growth and leadership development.

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • 4 years of work experience related to employment area.
  • Experience managing staff is required.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of investments and fund accounting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal); professional judgment, organizational planning, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Must be able to handle several activities simultaneously with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines and accuracy.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications with the ability to learn job-specific software.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Must be adaptable, flexible, and self-directed.
  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
  • Creativity, patience, a sense of humor and a belief in our organizational mission of: Aligning donor passion and generosity to advance Iowa State University’s land grant ideals.
