IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE is Hiring a Criminal justice instructor Near Estherville, IA

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY :

This is a full-time faculty position located on the Estherville Campus. The instructor is responsible for teaching a full-time assignment of Criminal Justice classes as defined by the College.

Some teaching assignments may be during evenings or weekends and / or on the TV system. Must evaluate and report student performance and progress in assigned courses in accordance with college and division policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF TIME) : Constant (-%)

  • Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi.
  • Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.
  • Evaluate, report, and record student performance and progress according to college and division guidelines.
  • Create, maintain, and review course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.
  • Organize and manage Estherville Campus Criminal Justice facilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with all members of the Criminal Justice Program, Faculty, and Administration.

Frequent (-%)

  • Maintain established office hours.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students and make referrals, when deemed necessary to other College personnel, such as the Dean of CTE and Workforce, Executive Dean, Educational Counselor, Financial Aid, etc.

  • Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary programs and College committees.
  • Assist in the development of a marketing plan the recruiting of interested students to the Criminal Justice program in cooperation with the Admissions Office.
  • Assist in the development of new courses and revisions of existing courses in the Criminal Justice program area to ensure continued program growth and development.
  • Arrange lab sites for student practical experiences and monitor progress. Assist with the recruitment and orientation of students.
  • Maintain communication with, and organize required meetings of, the Program Advisory Board.

Occasional (-%)

  • Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.
  • Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom / laboratory / firearms range.
  • Assist in providing professional development for peace officers and function as a liaison person with law enforcement.
  • Assist the supervisor in the budgeting process.
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the Criminal Justice program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  • Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies, and practices.
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgement when making decisions.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and other contacts.
  • Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
  • Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
  • Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
  • Work effectively as a member of a cooperative team.

SPECIAL DEMANDS :

Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time in an office or classroom / laboratory setting. Constant (-%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work.

Frequent (-%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Exerting up to pounds of force occasionally and pounds of force frequently.

May be required to travel between campuses utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record, and provide proof of insurance.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

A minimum of 6, hours of recent and relevant work experience in law enforcement and / or corrections. An Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Law, Social Science or other related area preferred.

Prior teaching experience at the college level is desired.

Salary : Commensurate with education and related experience for a -day contract.
