Job Title: Director of Information Technology

Location: Hybrid with residency within one hour of Altoona, Iowa or North Liberty, Iowa 

Exemption StatusExempt

Hours: Monday- Friday 8:30a-4:30p

*some evenings and weekends as needed

Position Summary: 

Responsible for managing and directing the company’s information technology (IT) operations, ensuring the department provides efficient and effective technical support service. The role provides enterprise-level leadership and strategic direction for the information technology functions, including data processing, computer services, network communications, and management information services to accomplish corporate goals and objectives. Day to day leadership includes oversight of recruitment and supervision of information technology staff, capital and operating budgeting, information management systems, and strategic planning. The Director of Information Technology reports to the CFO.

Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Direct the selection, training, development, and performance of IT staff to retain a motivated professional workforce for IDN. 
  2. Establish and communicate job responsibilities, manage performance expectations and outcomes to maintain optimal operational performance utilizing Studer Principles. 
  3. Ensure compliance with AATB, FDA, CMS, AOPO, UNOS/OPTN, OSHA, IDPH, federal and state employment and other regulations, GAAP, IRS and IDN policies through annual reviews, department audits, and staying current on industry standards and regulations. 
  4. Manage the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of the department. 
  5. Participate in organizational strategic planning and develop action plans to meet organizational goals.
  6. Accomplish department objectives through monitoring and analyzing data to maximize organ and tissue donation and identify trends and areas for improvement in IT.
  7. Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess productivity levels, operating costs, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.
  8. Oversees security of systems, networks, and enterprise information. 
  9. Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the organization as a member of the senior leadership team.
  10. Develop, track, and control the information technology annual operating and capital budgets to facilitate the orderly and efficient capture, storage, processing, and dissemination of information.
  11. Manage the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
  12. Direct development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan for technology systems.
  13. Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations
  14. Keep current with trends and issues in the IT, transplant and health care industries, including current technologies and practices.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications and Education Requirements: 

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in computer/IT operations
  • Experience in IT healthcare regulatory environment desirable
  • Minimum of two (2) years personnel management experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or equivalent from an accredited college or university is preferred
  • Masters preferred
  • SharePoint software experience is preferred

  6. Ability to interact with all levels of staff across a wide range of disciplines.
  7. A thorough understanding of the issues and objectives in the the field of organ and tissue donation is preferred.

  2. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing when representing IDN; work well with others; take and give direction; demonstrate effective problem-solving skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively. 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must have a high level of customer service and ability to communicate to a diverse audience.
  2. Requires travel between office locations and the ability to work evenings or weekends.
  3. Lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  4. Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work. 
  5. Maintain availability for communication 24/7/365. 
  6. Express ideas verbally and convey detailed or important spoken information.
  7. Receive detailed information through oral and auditory communication. 
  8. Maintain a current valid driver’s license and be insurable through IDN’s insurance.
