Iowa City Community School District is Hiring a 1.0 FTE Literacy Teacher Near Iowa, IA

Literacy Teacher (7th Grade)
8:15am - 4:15pm
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Iowa Certification – reading endorsement required
- BA required, MA preferred
- Successful teaching experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student population (preferred)
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge and experience in teaching reading
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Principal
SUPERVISES: n/a
JOB GOALS: To improve the academic achievement of students who struggle in the process of reading. Support ICCSD language arts instructional development, particularly the area of reading in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and deliver small group instruction to students who are identified as in need of additional support; use specific criteria identified by the District
- Assess student one-on-one or in small groups throughout the year to determine progress and to use data to guide instruction
- Interpret assessment results and share with classroom teachers as well as parents
- Make initial contact with parents about additional reading support and continue contact throughout year
- Write unique progress reports for all studnets taught at regular reporting periods (three times a year)
- Other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186/184 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
