Iolani School is Hiring an Interim Co-Director of Student Activities (2024-25 School Year) Near Honolulu, HI

Title : Interim Co-Director of Student Activities for the 2024-25 School Year
Job Status : F ull-time, exempt, year-round interim position
Salary Range : $65,000 to $85,000 annually based on experience
Supervision By : Dean of Students
Supervision Exercised : Along with fellow Co-Director, oversee Student Council, Senior Prefects, Class and Club Advisers
Job Summary :
This position is a one-year interim position beginning July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, with the opportunity to extend to a permanent position. The Co-Directors of Student Activities report directly to the Dean of Students. They are responsible for extracurricular programs and for providing students with leadership development opportunities. The goal of our Student Activities Office is to create opportunities for our students to build strong relationships and lasting core memories.
Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Leadership Training
    : Provide opportunities and experiences for student leaders in planning, communication and decision-making.
  • Social-Emotional Health
    : Work closely with the Health Education Coordinator, school psychologist, and counselors to develop programs that support students’ social-emotional health. Programs might include middle level advisory programs, off campus retreats, parent education, special recognition programs, or One Team days.
  • Senior Prefects
    : Coordinate all Senior Prefect activities including selection, strategic direction, and communication between student body and administration.
  • Transition Programs
    :
    Coordinate New Student Orientation, and other programs that help new students transition to ‘Iolani School and students move from ‘Iolani Lower School to Upper School.
  • Extracurricular Programs
    : Coordinate all Upper School student activities of an extracurricular nature. These activities include dances, intramurals, inter-school exchanges, faculty relations, Big Brothers/Sisters (grades 7, 8, 11, and 12), Homecoming, Winter Ball, May Day, Elections, Faculty Follies, Variety Show, Grandparent Relations, and school spirit initiatives.
  • Class Advisers
    : Recruit, support, and supervise each of the 12 class advisers. Responsibilities of class advisers include, but are not limited to, grade level dances/proms/banquets, Frosh Sleepover, Class Day, Junior Ring Distribution, and Project Grad. The Student Activities Office will provide guidance for all logistical matters (facilities use, guidelines, scheduling on school calendar) and will provide logistics support to the senior class advisers for Senior Trip.
  • Club Advisers
    : Oversee all Upper School clubs and Club Day. Provide support for logistical matters (facilities use, guidelines, scheduling on school calendar). Be present at all grade level evening and weekend events.
  • Special Programs
    :
    Coordinate or assist in planning Convocation, Senior Breakfast, Open House, ‘I olani Fair student manpower, Spring Honors Day, Spring Service Awards Assembly, Senior Water Park Day, Baccalaureate ushers, graduation decorations and ushers, certain scholarship programs, exchange programs, and other programs.
  • School Visits and Home Stays
    :
    Work with the Dean of Students to vet outside
    school visit and home stay requests, and coordinate and support logistical
    matters associated with those visits.
Required Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    .
  • Previous experience working with students in a school setting.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and work effectively with members of the Iolani community, especially the student body.
  • Leadership, management, organizational and interpersonal skills are also required.
  • Must be willing to work some nights and weekends.
Physical Requirements :
  • Extended periods of sitting.
  • Full leg and arm mobility (walking, ability to access overhead shelves).
  • A bility to lift and carry 15-20 pounds
    .
  • Full range of head and neck movement.
  • A bility to see and hear with or without correction.
  • Due to work in close proximity to children, must pass fingerprinting and background clearance checks. TB clearance required.
