Director, IT Ops - Cloud- Remote, USA

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Director of Cloud Operations to lead and optimize our AWS infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of AWS, strong leadership abilities, and a track record of successfully managing large-scale cloud environments.

As the Director of Cloud Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of our AWS infrastructure, as well as managing a team of skilled professionals. This is a critical role that will contribute to the overall success and growth of our organization. As the Director of Cloud Operations, you will play a crucial role in shaping and optimizing our organization's AWS infrastructure. Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide mentoring and career growth guidance to the team. 
  • Develop a re-skilling plan for the existing team as we migrate to cloud.
  • Lead and manage the cloud operations team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's success and professional development.
  • Lead DBA’s, network engineers, systems administrators, and helpdesk personnel.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for the organization's cloud operations, aligning it with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Monitor and analyze AWS infrastructure performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to optimize resource utilization, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for the AWS environment, conducting regular testing and updating procedures as needed.
  • Stay up to date with emerging cloud technologies, trends, and industry developments, making recommendations for adoption and innovation within the organization.
  • Manage relationships with cloud service providers, vendors, and other third-party partners, ensuring effective collaboration and maximizing value from external resources.
  • Nurture development teams adoption of increased autonomy, automation, and CI/CD through tooling, documentation and shared understanding of the ecosystem.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience with on-prem data center operations and technical migrations to cloud.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role managing cloud operations, preferably as a director or similar position.
  • In-depth understanding of AWS architecture, security, and networking principles, with hands-on experience in designing and implementing AWS solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale AWS environments, with a focus on availability, scalability, performance, and cost optimization.
  • Extensive experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, infrastructure as code, monitoring/telemetry, logging, reporting/dashboarding, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to lead security tooling and configuration updates needed at a company level
  • Experience in the following areas: Sys admin in using OS platform (Linux/Unix); Firm grasp of networking fundamentals such as DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP ; Experience with relational database system (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (e.g. security, privacy, SOX ).

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Advanced degree preferred
