International Society of Automation is Hiring a Technical Training Lab Supervisor Near Durham, NC

SUMMARY:

Oversees the application, maintenance, construction, and shipping of equipment and software used in the training courses. Assist customers, staff, and instructors with classroom laboratory exercises. Provides technical expertise in course development activities. The work is performed under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages ISA laboratory organization and operation, including equipment set-up and operation. Manages inventory and scheduling of all equipment at RTP classes and shipments to offsite training locations. Ensures labs are equipped appropriately and safety procedures are always followed.

Oversees and ensures that equipment and software used in all training courses are in good operating condition and repaired and updated as necessary. This also includes maintaining a network of computers, both physical and virtual, for conducting Virtual Instructor-led training. Oversees the maintenance of an accurate and up-to-date equipment inventory and pack list for offsite offerings. Provides equipment for events and associated training classes. Travels to events to help instructors where extra support is needed.

Advise and train ISA instructors on the use of ISA lab equipment and exercises. This includes reviewing the resumes of potential instructors and recommending which classes they would be most qualified to teach. Oversees equipment scheduling for course offerings and works with the sales team on custom needs of clients and tailoring our offerings to fit their needs.

Constructs new lab stations for both the instrumentation and cybersecurity courses. In some cases, this includes building labs for partner organizations or clients. Ensures that the lab equipment is current with industry needs. Maintains remote access management and software.

Provides technical expertise to the development team to ensure the continuous improvement of ISA courses. Advises and participates in the revision of courses and laboratory exercises assigned. Test all laboratory exercises to ensure clarity and makes changes in response to student and instructor feedback.

Identifies equipment and software needs and either purchases equipment or acquires donations from vendors whenever possible. Accounts for the expenses related to the maintenance and purchase of training equipment for classes and training rooms.

Serves as an advocate for team development, process improvement, and integration of a quality culture in all ISA activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the partial supervision of the Education Services Specialist whose responsibilities include the packing, shipping, and maintenance of lab equipment and the logistics involved.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education: An associate degree in instrumentation and control or a related field is required.

Skills: Requires a formal and working knowledge of automation and control technology, and equipment operation. Computer networking and knowledge of cybersecurity-related equipment such as firewalls, routers, and switches. Intermediate knowledge of PLC and HMI programming. Requires strong troubleshooting skills related to lab equipment failures and the ability to communicate with instructors and clients regarding lab needs. Must be familiar with both Linux and Windows operating systems. Requires the ability to guide students in a laboratory setting. Knowledge of low-voltage control wiring and the ability to read loop and P&ID drawings.

TRAVEL:Some travel is required to support instructors and to some events. Requires at least 50% of time spent in the office.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A minimum of 10 years of experience as a control systems technician, An ISA Certified Control System Technician (CCST) certification would be preferred.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES REQUIRED: An associate degree in instrumentation and control or a related field is required.
