Spanish immersion teacher

The International School of San Antonio seeks a Spanish immersion teacher who is enthusiastic about working with young children. Our Spanish immersion teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences while immersing them in the target language. The teacher helps them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will also enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

About the International School of San Antonio

The International School of San Antonio is a private school offering comprehensive language immersion education. Our preschool and kindergarten program is for children three to five years old. It helps young people become fluent, confident participants in their worlds, while preparing them for a wider range of future education and career opportunities. Parents can choose the French, Chinese or Spanish track for their children.

In Elementary School, our international curriculum is delivered in a target language of either French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese and English. Students are developing their reading skills in both languages and building their foundational knowledge of math, science, social studies and arts. In each learning area of the lower elementary curriculum, we encourage students to question the world around them.

Job Responsibilities:

- Teach assigned subjects to students according to curriculum plan

- Plan, prepare, organize, and conduct activities that align with the curriculum

- Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children

- Supervise children during recess, lunch, nap/quiet time and pickup

- Differentiate lesson plans based on age, level of development and learning needs

- Develop positive parent teacher relationships and promote parent teacher partnerships

- Communicate with parents to inform about their children’s academic progress

- Partner with ISSA colleagues to provide a high-quality learning experience, and ensure continuity across the curriculum

- Use different assessment methods to evaluate student progress, their academic strengths and weaknesses

- Contribute to a working environment that is friendly, respectful, open and honest,

- Organize the classroom space in a functional, clean, neat and attractive way that encourages students to use materials as independently as appropriate

- Monitor student activities in school premise and ensure safety of every student in the classroom and school grounds

- Attend educational trainings and workshops for professional growth

- Other duties as assigned

- Teachers may need to be able to lift up to 35 pounds

Qualifications

- We are looking for an experienced preschool teacher who enjoys working in a diverse and international environment. Experience working in international schools, particularly IB PYP authorized schools is strongly preferred.

- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field from an accredited university, master’s degree/teaching certification preferred

- Fluency in Spanish

- Experience working with a transdisciplinary curriculum framework, designing engaging, student-centered lesson plans

- Clear understanding of stages of child development and the social/emotional needs of children

- Excellent classroom management skills

- Comfortable working in a mixed-age, multilingual classroom

- Must have a good working knowledge and be able to use standard office equipment and software, including but not limited to computer, printer, laminating machine, etc.

- Must pass a background check

Hours and Compensation

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
