Job Overview.

The Senior Advisor, Strategy & Change Management is responsible for leading (with support from the Director, Strategy & Performance, the VP for Technical Excellence, and the People & Culture business partner) a people-centered change management process for the Regional & Technical Alignment project. The Senior Advisor will also lead a coordinated approach to Outcome Strategies and cross-cutting topic papers, ensuring cohesion across Technical Units and integration with other CRRD and S100 business processes (most notably S100 Phase 2 planning and the SAPs). The position requires a track record of leadership and strategic management for outcomes, strong planning and problem-solving skills, good knowledge of programs and the ability to work well in a diverse, dynamic technical team.

Major Responsibilities:

Technical Excellence Change Management

  • In close collaboration with the People & Culture lead for TechEx, implement change management strategies and plans to foster employee engagement and ensure smooth transition during the structural change process.
  • In partnership with the Communications Officer, maintain effective communication channels to inform and engage stakeholders at all levels regarding the purpose, benefits, and progress of the structural changes.
  • Lead and facilitate both the Core Change Management Team as well as Change Management Working Group to advance the change process at pace and incorporate feedback into relevant products.
  • Track success metrics for the change effort and establish tracking routines.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and challenges associated with the structural change process, proactively addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Lead presentations to a variety of internal stakeholders updating them on the change management process or components of it; support People & Culture teammates to learn the content and build it into ongoing onboarding routines.

Outcome Strategy Project Management

  • Work with Director, Strategy & Performance to project manage the process of finalizing the Outcome Strategies and incorporating them into S100 Phase 2 planning
  • Track progress and engage collaborative problem solving to keep delivery on track
  • Work closely with Sr Director, Strategy & Performance, Program Delivery, and Sr Director, Policy & Planning, CRRD to ensure lockstep with SAP planning and departmental strategy

Other strategic projects as identified by the Director, Strategy & Performance

Key Working Relationships

Position reports to: Director, Technical Excellence Strategy & Performance

Close working relationship with the People & Culture lead for Technical Excellence

Other internal: VP of Technical Excellence, Senior Technical Directors

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position is ideally based at the IRC's headquarters in New York; other locations may be feasible upon request (for internal candidates only).

Standard office working environment

May require some travel

This role may require working remotely or partially remotely; employees may be required to share workspace

Requirements:

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of work experience including at least two years strategy or organizational change experience.
  • Familiarity with Technical Excellence and the Crisis Response, Recovery and Development department highly preferred.

Demonstrated skills

  • Ability to support senior management and work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to lead projects and initiatives teams without direct authority, applying exceptional relationship management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to deliver complicated assignments with significant independence.
  • Proven attention to detail and analysis skills.

  • Experience working well with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Interpersonal communication skills with clear and concise communication.
  • Organization and time-management skills; proven track record to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Ability to structure and creatively resolve sophisticated problems.
  • Ability to respond enthusiastically and positively to ambiguity, resilient in shifting priorities and setbacks, and comfortable with analysis and solutions.
  • Comfort as the “leader” and the “doer” on a small team; humility and flexibility to work on very senior as well as more junior tasks
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred experience & skills:

  • Experience in a humanitarian field, development organization, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of French, Arabic or Spanish is an advantage
