Job Description

IRC Background: Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. The IRC is on the ground in more than 40 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 26 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC helps refugees resettle and become self-sufficient. The IRC in Abilene opened its doors in 2003, and resettles 75-150 refugees annually, and provides support to over 1,000 refugees and ORR eligible individuals in the Abilene community and greater West Texas Region. The case management department is integral in assisting vulnerable refugees in settling and re-building their lives in the Big Country.

Job Overview: The SAS Casework Supervisor will oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects of the SAS case work program while carrying a case load of 20%. The SAS Casework Supervisor will develop and monitor annual and strategic plans for the department; ensure program goals are met; staff are supervised and supported; and ensure reporting, compliance, and budgeting requirements are satisfied through oversight of team members and activities. The SAS Casework Supervisor will plan for the overall department and its programs in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization as well as represent IRC’s casework services in the community and to potential funders, serving as a resource to those seeking information about program activities.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Staff and Departmental Management:

  • Provide supervision to staff across SAS programs (Afghans, Legal Navigation, Abilene CW and PB CW) and hold regular 1:1 meetings including coaching staff
  • Evaluate and report on staff performance.
  • Lead and facilitate team meetings and staff trainings.
  • Provide career development and learning opportunities to build the service delivery leadership strengths of all within the department.
  • Ensure compliance of self and team with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.
  • Work with staff to ensure implementation of SAP objectives
  • Collaborate with Resettlement Manager on placement strategies, overall enrollment targets etc.
  • Pursue funding for the department through support in grant applications activities.
  • SAS Case Work Services
  • Manage the delivery of services to clients in the Permian Basin (up to 20% of a case load)
  • Complete Intake and establish eligibility
  • Complete a service plan and follow up on services
  • Complete documentations adhering to grant requirements

Compliance & Documentation

  • Implement and manage processes and procedures to ensure compliance with all program requirements; coordinate preparation for audits of casework services as needed.
  • Review data produced by the casework team to measure progress towards monthly targets and scan for any anomalies that need additional attention.
  • Team/Office Participation:
  • As part of Abilene Senior Management Team, develop, implement and monitor Strategic Action Plan
  • As part of Abilene Senior Management Team, review funding gaps within the office and provide support with grant development, or develop grants as appropriate
  • Participate in program meetings, staff development activities, and other duties as assigned.
  • Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive strength-based services to IRC clients through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in social work, international relations, or other relevant field; graduate degree preferred;
  • 2 or more years of progressive experience in nonprofit program development and management
  • Grant writing experience preferred
  • People management experience strongly preferred
  • Familiar with federally funded refugee/asylee/immigrant casework programs, with an understanding of strategies and best practices that build self-sufficiency
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Bi-lingual abilities in a refugee language helpful
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a cross-cultural environment
  • Computer literacy required
  • Must have reliable transportation and maintain valid driver’s license and insurance coverage and be able to provide evidence of such to the IRC

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
