Department: Corrugated Hand Assembly Plant/Wood Shop
Reports To: Plant Production Supervisor/Plant Superintendent
Prepared By: Production Team
Pay Rate: $18.84 per hour
SUMMARY
Catches and feeds various machines. Operates small hand of power tools. Sets Up, Assembles, fills, cleans or refurbishes, lifts, sorts and stacks wooden/corrugated/foam products such as boxes, packing crates, skids, pallets and various components or subassemblies.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully pass the Basic Industrial Skills Test Battery.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, JSA’s, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, work orders and specification drawings.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to properly use a standard tape measure.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment has been determined to be at a level that requires hearing protection.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned based on production needs and/or rotation schedule.
Assembler I
  • Understanding and following instructions and completing required paperwork.
  • Cleaning around work areas. Clean as you go, clean at the end of the shift.
  • Ability to recognize nonconforming material such as damaged or defective items.
  • Discards scrap or defective pieces of waste into scrap containers.
  • Ability to read and use a standard tape measure.
  • Inspection of completed work per quality standards. Log inspection to work order if required. Final inspection and tagging of product.
  • Safe and Proper use of the following equipment:
    • Utility Knife.
    • Banding Tools.
    • Manual and Electric Pallet Jack.
    • Assorted glue roll coaters.
    • Other small hand tools.
    • Bostitch Hand Stitcher.
    • Horton Stripper.
    • Hot Glue Guns.
    • Other small hand tools.
  • Specific Duties include:
    • Hand assembling cartons using the HMT Hot Melt Guns
    • Adding/Inserting parts to a box
    • Applying tape
    • Hand assembling Corrugated Pallets
    • Effective rotation within jobs of same or lower level.
    • Cleaning, repairing, and refurbishing crates/boxes for re-use.
Assembler I – Harbor Point Plant
  • Safe and Proper use of the following equipment:
  • Cordless Drill
  • Hand Sander
  • Table tyer
  • Drill Presses
  • Cardinal Foam Saw
  • Operates Jib/Bridge Cranes
  • Operates the Baker De-Duster
  • Specific Duties include:
    • Feeding and catching materials on V-Groovers, Pioneer Diecutter, Re-saws, Chop Saw, Gang Ripper, or similar equipment.
    • Cleaning, repairing, and refurbishing crates/boxes for re-use.
    • Hand assembling “one-person” cartons/products with the use of hot melt guns
      • “One-person” cartons by definition are cartons that are of a size and weight that they can be lifted, stacked, or assembled by a single person. This typically includes:
        • Foam Products
        • Corrugated Die cuts and build ups
        • Set Up Corrugated Boxes
        • Plastic Cases
        • Others of similar weight or construction
Assembler I – Beechgrove Plant
  • Safe and Proper use of the following equipment:
    • Bolster Machine
    • Marsh Tape Machine
    • Vacuum System
    • Stretch Wrap Machine
  • Specific Duties include:
    • Catching from the corner cutter machines
    • Applying foam to a box using a HM-9 or similar glue roll coater on the Giant Line.
    • Adding corrugated pads and mylar into boxes on the Giant Line.
    • Hand assembling “one-person” cartons/products with the use of hot melt guns
      • “One-person” cartons/products by definition are cartons/products that are of a size and weight that they can be lifted, stacked, or assembled by a single person. This typically includes:
        • Boxes on the Towanda Line.
        • Rhodes and Indium boxes.
        • Corrugated build-ups/bolsters.
        • Others of similar weight or construction
