Our growing upper elementary program is seeking a second upper elementary Montessori guide to join our current lead in a teaching team beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.
Our ideal candidate is creative, extremely organized, and has strong knowledge of the upper elementary Montessori curriculum. This person is comfortable working in a collaborative, co-teaching model and is eager to be a key contributor to our school community.
Key Requirements
Our upper elementary program is structured such that our students are with the upper elementary English teacher five morning work cycles per week and are with their target language upper elementary teachers for the afternoon work cycles. The upper elementary team collaborates on quarterly planning such that both teaching teams are responsible for separate cultural content over the course of the year.
With an anticipated class size of 20 students, a co-lead, student-free lunch and planning time, and limited meetings, IMS strives to be a professional home that supports staff in providing an excellent education while prioritizing personal time after hours. Our work hours are 7:40AM to 4:30PM (3:30PM on Friday). This position is a full-time, 10 month position. A competitive salary and health, vision, and dental benefits are available.
All interested candidates should apply by sending a cover letter and a current resume/CV. We are working to fill this position as soon as possible. Newly hired staff will begin the school year August 5, 2024 for new staff orientation.
About us
We are a non-profit, independent school located across two campuses in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina near Duke University and the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. IMS fosters a collaborative, respectful, diverse environment where teachers and families of many cultures, languages, backgrounds, and lived experiences come together in a supportive and engaging community. Our school provides full immersion programs in Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese for approximately 175 students from 18 months to 12 years old (the toddler program is in English). Our toddler program and a portion of our upper elementary program are in English. Most of our students come from English-speaking homes, but their parents have chosen IMS because they value being bilingual in today’s society. Some of our families come from homes where at least one parent speaks the target language (or another language) natively or relatively fluently.
IMS, an equal opportunity employer, seeks to support a diverse staff to reflect the diverse community of parents and students. Our 2023-2024 student body is 8% African-American or Black, 6% Asian, 7% Hispanic, 35% Multi-racial, and 44% Caucasian. Interested applicants should review our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion page (at https://www.imsnc.org/diversity-equity-and-inclusion) prior to applying.
