Who We Are:

Founded more than a century ago, ICMA is the premier professional association for local government leaders, managers, staff, and stakeholders, serving more than 13,000 members globally. As a membership association, we provide research and knowledge resources, professional development and training, peer to peer engagement, and technical assistance. We are also a major implementing partner for many grant and contract funded programs on emerging and prevailing topics and challenges to create stronger communities.

At ICMA, we take the concept of local government leadership, management, and innovation further into the future. Through our mission and passion to advance professional local government, we help communities deliver innovative services, empower resident engagement, enable economic development, strengthen leadership, uphold ethics, and provide forward-thinking management.

We are currently accepting resumes for an Intern to provide administrative support to our Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Fellows Program for approximately 10 weeks. The internship will begin on or around June 17, 2024, and will end on or around August 30, 2024. The internship is part-time with a work schedule ranging between 10 - 20 hours a week. The hourly rate for this role is $17.50 per hour.

ICMA partners with the YSEALI Professional Fellows Program, which is a professional development exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State that provides selected participants from Southeast Asia aged 25-35 with an opportunity to spend 5.5 weeks in the United States. ICMA has led YSEALI programs for 10 years and hundreds of ICMA members have enjoyed hosting fellows.

The fellowship includes 4 weeks working directly with American counterparts in individually tailored placements with local governments, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector offices across the country.

What You'll Do:

  • Must be flexible with the ability to handle a range of tasks
  • Identify housing for Cohort 2 Fellows for their 4-week fellowship and submit basic financial docs for the project
  • Help organize the orientation week activities and support the APM in arranging meetings, discussions, and tours

  • Assist with updating and maintaining website
  • Call potential Fellowship hosts to determine interest in hosting
  • Draft and send out survey to Cohort 1 Fellows to capture impact of Fellowship
  • Input Cohort 1 information into database
  • The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program with coursework in international development, planning and/or business
  • Prior experience in event planning is preferred

This position is based out of ICMA's headquarters, located in Washington, D.C. At this time, all ICMA staff are working remotely. The selected individual must be able to work the core business hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm EST. Our office will remain operational and accessible for staff to use on a voluntary basis.
