Role Overview:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering all company health, wellness, and retirement benefit programs in North America. The Specialist stays current with benefit trends and provisions and provides suggestions for changes accordingly. The Specialist also builds and maintains relationships with brokers and outside administrators and performs audits. Additionally, the Specialist assists employees with all their enrolments, questions, forms, and policy enquiries.

Reporting to the Benefits & Wellness Manager, your core RESPONSIBILITIES will include:

  • Assist with administering the processing and effectiveness of all benefit plans for Canada and the US.
  • Audit vendor systems to ensure proper enrollments, with a particular focus on Open Enrollment processing.
  • Reconcile vendor reporting for status changes, employee alerts
  • Update communication benefit programs to employees including changes or enhancements through internal communication tools and intranet.
  • Answer employee benefit questions, and help to rectify problems.
  • Assist with Long Term Disability/Short Term Disability leave of absence 
  • Ensure compliance with benefit plan applications; ACA, 401K and audit for discriminatory practices, COBRA compliance, policy enforcement, etc.
  • Manage enrollments and determine eligibility.
  • Administration of retirement benefit programs for Canada and US
  • Communicate benefits options during leaves and partner with payroll/accounting as required
  • Verify entered data by reviewing, correcting or updating data with integration and vendors
  • Maintain internal records and tracking systems for leave of absence and new hires.

You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 1-2 years of experience with data administration in a high-volume environment
  • Proactive problem solver and team player with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets
  • Proven analytical skills; strong research and follow-up skills 
  • Ability to work with large volumes of statistical and confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information in a strictly confidential manner, exhibiting a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and service orientation in all activities and all interactions with internal and external individuals
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule

Preferred:

  • Experience administering benefit plans to both US and Canadian employees
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to compose letters, enrollment and processing instructions and to provide explanations and instructions to employees.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or other ADP applications
  • College degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field of study

Job Location: Remote - Open to both US and Canadian applicants 

Job Compensation: $50,000 -$60,000 CAD
