General Purpose:

To provide effective and efficient patient care in accordance with accepted standards of massage therapy practice, Interim HealthCare Hospice policies and in accordance with law and regulation.

Essential Functions:

• Providesmassage therapy services to patients in accordance with physician’s orders and the interdisciplinary group (IDG) plan of care with a focus on a hospice and palliative care approach.
• Communicates with the IDG regarding the patient’s condition/status and progress toward goals.
• Participates in IDG meetings as requested.
• Completes and submits accurate and timely documentation of massage therapy services provided.
• Participates in the quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program as appropriate.
• Fulfills the obligation of requested and/or accepted case assignments.
• Provides inservices and/or education to the hospice IDG as appropriate.
• Completes other assignments as requested and assigned.
• May have access to personal health information (“PHI”) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities. Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

• Massage Therapist with a current and active license/certification in the state in which he/she practices.
• One year of Massage Therapy experience required.
• If a state standard exists that is higher than these education/experience requirements, the state standard supersedes these qualifications.

• Hospice massage therapy experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills.
• Proven ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group.
• Able to comply with accepted professional standards of practice and law and regulation.
• Understands hospice philosophy.
• Able to effectively communicate with all levels of the healthcare team, both clinical and non-clinical.
• Able to perform and prioritize multiple functions or tasks.
• Able to read and interpret technical instructions related to the care of the patient.
• Able to effectively deal with multiple changes.
• Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Abe to provide proof of valid driver’s license if applicable.
• Able to provide proof of valid auto liability insurance if assignment(s) include driving vehicle.
• Meets applicable health requirements to pride patient services as appropriate.
• Meets the requirements of federal and/or state criminal and abuse background checks where applicable.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

• Per visit rates available
• Work is normally performed in the patient’s home or hospice facility.
• Able to constantly travel from assignment to assignment.
• Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens and/or other potentially infectious or hazardous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
• Able to constantly stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel and reach freely.
• Able to assist patients with standing, walking, sitting, transferring and rolling in bed.
• Able to constantly grasp with thumb in opposition to fingers of palm, i.e. manipulate pen, knobs or objects.
• Sufficient endurance to perform the required physical and mental tasks over long periods of time.
• Visual acuity, dexterity and hearing to perform required Massage Therapist skills.
• Able to work flexible schedule and/or evening hours as needed.
• Heavy physical activity that may require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling over 50 lbs in order to carry out daily job functions and related activities that may be required.
