Licensed Practical Nurse Needed!

Provide one-one-one care to a disabled child while riding the bus to school! Hours are 5:45AM - 9:15AM and 2:30PM - 5:30PM Monday - Friday!

General Purpose:

Provides nursing care to patients/students in accordance with physician’s orders, established standards of practice, and the policies and procedures of the contracting employer. Makes decisions that are based upon his/her education and experience in nursing. Responsible for monitoring special needs students on the bus during transportation to and from school; recognizing and responding to deviation from their baseline and administering emergency medications and procedures as prescribed by their physician.

Essential Functions:

  • Implements physician orders and reports the patient’s response to care for all patients assigned.
  • Recognizes changing patient conditions and emergency situations and intervenes appropriately within the scope of practice and contracting employer’s policies and procedures.
  • Displays a working knowledge of common disease pathophysiology and common diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Constantly monitor students’ well-being and behavior during the route.
  • Reads and interprets policy and procedure manuals, written physician’s orders, equipment operating instructions and safety manuals.
  • Responds to students’ needs by administering first aid and care as stipulated by policies and procedures, during the route, notifying the driver if an emergency exists.
  • Store and secure all student equipment that is to be transported with the student.
  • Presents written and verbal information and direction to patients/students, family, and staff.
  • Interprets a variety of technical data as appropriate to assigned responsibilities and scope of practice (e.g., monitoring equipment, infusion pumps, etc.).
  • Understands instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Applies basic math to job situations (e.g. drug calculations, intake and output calculations).
  • Establishes effective relationships with patients/students, physicians, families, coworkers and supervisors.
  • Provides direct care to patients/students with a wide variety of diagnoses, conditions, and diseases.
  • Maintains a safe environment for all patients/students assigned. Assuming responsibility for ensuring completion of student injury report, as needed.
  • Responds to emergency/disaster situations according to the policies and procedures of the contracting employer.
  • Able to provide proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) training including adults, children and infants. Additional trainings may be required dependent upon specialty or facility requirements.
  • Operates patient equipment and devices according to manufacturer’s operating instructions and contracting employer’s policy.
  • Provides legible, clear written or electronic documentation of all patient/student care provided, nursing interventions, narrative notes, medications administered, and the patient’s/student’s response to care.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with contracting employer’s policies and procedures.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the contracting employer who is also responsible for monitoring work in progress and reevaluating the status of the assigned work at the end of the shift/assignment.
  • Completes other assignments as requested and assigned.
  • May have access to personal health information (“PHI”) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities. Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department.
