JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nurse Administrator will be responsible for providing supervision, organization, training, support to agency nurses and oversees nurse scheduling for the agency. The incumbent will coordinate with psychiatric providers and supervisor of psychiatric providers, provide consultation to program staff, and direction regarding client health.

Compensation

Non-exempt; Part-Time or Full-Time up to 40 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education & experience.

REPORTS TO

Deputy Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Current California Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner license; Experience in the Mental Health field. Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychotropic medications. Experience with training and supervising nurse teams.

Preferred: BSN; Psychiatric nursing experience; Medi-Cal documentation experience; proficient in Outlook email correspondence and computer software’s. Ability to; work as a member of a team; accept supervision; maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close inter-personal relationships; learn and apply principles of social rehabilitation; organized, responsible, flexible, empathic and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community. Knowledge of community resources.

Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Nurse Administrator will assist with the following duties:

1. Provides regular supervision and training for agency’s nurses, RN and LVN.

2. Ensures nursing coverage and schedules nursing for agency programs.

3. Liaison with supervisor of psychiatric providers, ensuring effective communication between providers and nurses.

4. Coordinates daily nursing support for psychiatric providers.

5. Provides consultation to agency managers in health direction and management.

6. Ensures and provides appropriate, recovery oriented, trauma informed, wellness centered services focused on nursing support for patients.

7. Coordinates medications prescribed by psychiatric providers and assists providers with patient care.

8. Assist clients in attaining community stability and reaching their health, recovery and rehabilitation goals.

9. Provides training for nurses in assisting clients with their physical and mental health recovery process by developing the skills necessary to lead independent or interdependent, healthy and meaningful lives in the community.

10. Provides psychiatric and other education and advocacy to patients, patients’ families and other support members as appropriate.

11. Administer IM medications as needed and documents services in EHR.

12. Conducts and utilizes client need assessments for development and tracking of client centered treatment planning.

13. Review medications and communicate with prescribing physicians to ensure medications are up to date and accurate.

14. Review medication logs at programs monthly to ensure logs are up to date and accurate.

15. Trains nurses and provides nutrition training, substance use disorder, diet planning, smoking cessation, and other health related issues as they arise.

16. Provides counsel to patients individually to set, track and achieve rehabilitation and recovery goals.

17. Establish and maintain linkage with other medical providers.

18. Maintain legible, accurate and timely documentation of treatment plans and other necessary information on clients, including documentation required for Medi-Cal or other insurance standards.

19. Maintain accurate and secure summary information based on documentation in computer files and databases and follow the HIPAA Privacy Rules guidelines for protecting client’s medical records.

20. Identify, assess, and respond to crisis situations. Set clear limits and ensure that both clients and facility are safe.

21. Meet and record productivity and outcome standards of the nursing program.

22. Collaborate and coordinate services with multidisciplinary staff team members, i.e. Psychiatrist, Nurses, Family Partner, Peer and other staff to provide effective services.

23. Documents medication support and other services provided to patients in EHR and other systems.

24. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, stooping, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lift up to 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
