InterGen are seeking a talented graduate to join our two year data and analytics programme for a unique opportunity to build strong data experience in a dynamic energy trading environment and develop technical skills that will provide a fantastic platform for a career in the data space.

With a well-established and experienced commodity trading team in Edinburgh we sell our electricity and related services to utilities, system operators and others in these markets.

Our growth strategy supports developments that span the transitional generation mix combining highly flexible assets with emerging, innovative technologies in the low carbon sphere.
Whilst on the programme, you will rotate across three roles within the Data and Analytics team. This is a 24-month rotational programme including:
Fundamentals (months 1-3): this first three month period is essential for new graduates to attain the requisite skills to contribute to projects throughout InterGen. In this period the graduate will:
Rotation 1 - Data Engineering (months 4-9): all data roles require datasets and managing, accessing, moving, and curating these datasets is the role of the data engineer. In this rotation the graduate will:
Rotation 2 - Data Analytics (months 10-15):help our Data team answer the question “what does the data tell us, what happened, and why?” This role requires taking business questions and turning them into either one off reports or dashboards. In this rotation you will:
Rotation 3 - Data Science (months 16-21): data scientists work with advanced modelling techniques, statistics and computational resources to uncover patterns in datasets. These insights can then be used to generate enhanced predictive capabilities using automation and machine learning. In this rotation they will:
Rotation 4 - Specialisation (months 22-24): This final three month period allows the graduate to continue some of the work from the previous rotations to select their specialisation. This will be a strong indicator for the type of role they should move into once they’ve completed the program. They should in this time:
We are looking for inquisitive people with an enthusiasm to build a career in data and an ability to work within a dynamic setting. Coding/development experience is not essential but is preferred, as is a passion for data. The graduate role will require successful candidates to be based in the Edinburgh office, however, hybrid working is available.
The successful candidates will be demonstrate excellent problem solving skills and enthusiasm to explore new opportunities. Working within a small organisation like InterGen means exposure to a wide variety of areas so you should be adaptable and open to exploring different topics.
We are looking for graduates who are educated to degree level, preferably in a scientific or numerical subject but as long as you can demonstrate problem solving abilities, we will consider applicants with other relevant experience and degree backgrounds.
InterGen has a culture of strongly supporting employee development through structured training courses, on the job learning and mentoring from experienced colleagues. Throughout the graduate programme training and development will be tailored to your requirements and placement needs. We aim to develop well-rounded individuals with practical work skill ready to take your next career steps after the programme completes.
Graduates will be assigned a mentor and buddy to help them integrate into the business and progress through their rotations. You will also be part of graduate community which will include those currently on the programme and those who have completed it, benefiting from their experiences during and after the scheme.
