The Planer Mill Supervisor is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Kinsale, VA Mill Manager. As Planer Mill Supervisor, you are responsible for the safe coordination and oversight of the daily activities and production in the Planer Mill Department.

Key Functions

• Oversee planer mill operations and provide leadership for process improvement.
• Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times, leading by example and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and OSHA regulations
• Work with Mill Manager, peers and supervisors to develop production schedules and coordinate operations to ensure highest practical output and efficiency
• Identify and assist in the troubleshooting of equipment
• Facilitate proactive problem-solving
• Coach, train, and support employees to maximize performance while ensuring production meets quality standards and quality specifications.
• Ensure the timely implementation of key Corporate and operational initiatives
• Work with Maintenance to coordinate preventive maintenance, expedite repairs, and schedule equipment updates, additions, and / or replacements.
• Improve and maintain department performance according to set objectives and established goals for safety, quality, waste reduction, housekeeping, and process reliability

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of sawmill and / or planer mill experience
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in an industrial environment
• Demonstrated ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set
• Track record of success in a complex and fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated ability in leading a team
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Strong work ethic, good judgment and decision-making skills
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office, other Windows based programs and internet skills
• Working knowledge of business and financial concepts
• Demonstrated results in achieving and sustaining business goals
• Able and willing to perform the essential job requirements such as working at heights, climbing stairs, working in extreme heat or cold, or working in confined / restricted spaces.
