Interfaith Sanctuary Housing Services is Hiring an Evening Security Team Member Near Boise, ID

Interfaith Sanctuary Homeless Shelter is currently seeking a full time evening security team member.

Shifts alternate with other security staff 4-9 or 4-12am. Paid time off, Health benefits and $500 HRA card after 90 days.

Interfaith serves people of all genders, races, religions, and sexual orientation, as well as families with children by providing safe overnight shelter, case management and programs to assist with their transition out of homelessness. We allow those that are suffering from a substance use disorder or any mental health issues to stay with us.

The shelter staff play a very important role for our homeless guests. This is hands on, making a difference, and being part of changing a person’s life.

Overall Nightly Responsibilities:

  • Greeting the guests with a smile, asking them how their day is going. Assess to see if they have any obvious needs that they are not able to meet. This could be assessing to see if they have appropriate clothing on, especially when the seasons are changing.
  • Responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of the guests while maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries at all times.
  • Enforce and follow all shelter policies.
  • Utilize positive behavioral management techniques including verbal redirection.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with guests at all times.
  • Follow crisis de-escalation protocol by diffusing any conflicts as they arise and communicating with supervisors, and other staff as needed.

Nightly Responsibilities for Security Position include :

  • Provide shelter security. We metal detect everyone with a walkthrough metal detector to make sure they do not bring anything inside the building that should not be. Such as weapons, drugs and alcohol.
  • Assist the guests coming to seek shelter on where to place their personal items.
  • Listening and looking to see what is going on around you. Making sure there is no verbal violence going on, everyone is following policy and there are no guests’ belongings being gone through by others.
  • Directly reporting to inside staff, if someone is leaving property for the night, or if someone is coming onto property that should not be there.
  • Note: This is not a bouncer position, but a position that can be taught on how to keep the guests that are staying with us safe.
  • This position takes place outside from 5pm-9pm. We have appropriate heating and cooling outside for staff and guests.
  • Provides consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks
  • Provide all guests, staff, and volunteers with a safe and secure environment. This includes monitoring guest activities as well as regular walkthroughs of the area.
  • General cleaning of facilities including laundry after lights out.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Team player who is committed to the common purpose of assisting those in need. Someone that is also willing to jump in and help wherever they are needed.
  • Personable, positive, and able to work well with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of a variety of human behaviors and is able to defuse hostile situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining order and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Must be comfortable working with individuals who struggle with addiction and mental health issues.
  • Must consistently communicate and uphold shelter policies and procedures in a way that supports our guests needing shelter.
  • Ability to operate telephones and basic electronic and office equipment.

Qualifications
Composure: Ability to possess maturity, sense of confidence and emotional stability and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to represent the agency well and respond professionally in all situations. Ability to set and enforce behavioral limits.

Work Environment: Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers and professionals. Ability to function independently and in a team setting. Ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served in order to help them gain skills and confidence.

Experience working with individuals that are experiencing a substance use disorder and or have a mental health diagnosis is preferred. Experience in security and de-escalation is also preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, and kneel on an intermittent or continual basis
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds
  • Stretching/Reaching, Stooping (bend at waist) frequently

Pay: $16.00 per hour
