The selected candidate will design, simulate, and provide proof of concept for novel systems that InterDigital is creating to drive 5G and beyond wireless networking, including: Development of cutting-edge wireless technologies and system aspects to enable ultra-low power cellular system designs, ultra-reliable and low latency connectivity, radio links at higher frequency ranges, heterogeneous network deployments in licensed and unlicensed spectrum; detailed system studies, waveform design and protocol development to support beyond 5G and 6G networks; system architecture development, system design, generation of technical reports, patents and disclosures, publications etc.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out cutting-edge research in waveform design, physical layer and/or system-level design, algorithms and protocols for next generation mobile communications systems
  • Research, analyze and evaluate various waveforms, modulation and coding techniques
  • Develop and evaluate various beyond 5G/6G wireless protocol designs using simulation, and/or theoretical analysis
  • Through evaluation, analysis and development of innovative solutions for control and transfer of user data at L1/PHY, L2/MAC and L3/RRC protocol layers
  • Drive tradeoff analysis of various transceiver topologies (including power consumption estimation)
  • Document and present the novel wireless technologies and implementations in various forms, such as standards contributions, conference and journal publications, technical white papers, patent applications, etc.

Qualifications

  • M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field (Ph.D. preferred)
  • 4 years of work experience post Ph.D. (or 8 years of work experience post M.S.) in the field of wireless communications
  • Strong background in 3GPP and cellular systems (3GPP 4G LTE and 5G NR), wireless protocol development and wireless communications fundamentals:
    • Modulation and coding techniques
    • Advanced waveform designs
    • PHY and MAC layer design
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of 3GPP 4G LTE and 5G/NR preferred
  • Familiarity with ultra-low power design challenges and hardware component limitations preferred
