Inter Tribal Council of AZ, Inc is Hiring a Tribal Maternal Health Specialist. Near Phoenix, AZ

SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the direction of the Health and Human Services Director, the Health Promotion Specialist will coordinate chronic disease prevention activities with the Tribes in Arizona, Utah and Nevada to implement interventions or improve policy, system, and environmental changes focusing on heart disease, stroke, obesity, cancer and diabetes prevention. Position requires monthly travel. Timely and regular attendance to work, work-related events and virtual sessions is an essential function of this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates Regional Chronic Disease Prevention Working Group Meetings with Tribes and partners;
  • Provides on-going technical assistance and training to conduct community health assessments among the Tribes in Arizona, Utah and Nevada;
  • Works with Tribal Programs and Tribal Coalitions to ensure the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) chronic disease prevention strategies, program goals, objectives and activities are being met;
  • Develops and delivers webinar-trainings and in-person trainings and presentations;
  • Participates in program and coalition planning with Tribes and other partners;
  • Coordinates trainings, meetings (i.e., in-person and conference calls) and conferences for Tribal sub-awardees and sessions opened to all Tribes in the Phoenix Area/Tucson Area IHS regions ;
  • Conducts monitoring site-visits with Tribal sub-awardees.
  • Researches and disseminates varied and culturally adapted health promotional materials through outreach efforts with Tribal Programs to use in educating program staff and community members;
  • Performs other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, supporting departmental and organizational capacity-building activities.
  • Must be able to travel in and out of the State for up to six (6) days in a week.
  • Performs other related duties, special projects, and reporting as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting grant and contract timelines and deliverables.
  • Ability to manage and execute subcontracts with Tribes
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Tribes.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain written reports and data collection.
  • Ability to plan and develop programs that meet the American Indian community needs and fulfill State requirements.
  • Must be knowledge of American Indian government structures, including health systems and disparities.
  • Must be knowledgeable in health and health-related policy development;
  • Must be knowledgeable of Tribal, State and Federal government agencies and their processes;
  • Ability to conduct research in a culturally sensitive and timely manner.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to face-to-face meetings and conferences.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Webinars (i.e. ECHO Zoom) and PowerPoint; and ability to learn Adobe Connect and other computer software needed to complete objectives.
  • Ability to travel to national conferences as needed.
  • Must travel extensively, for up to six (6) days in a week throughout Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Overnight stays are required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in American Indian Studies, Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, Human Services, or related health field plus 1-3 year’s related work experience or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent. Knowledge of Tribal Sovereignty, Indigenous Research Methodologies, and experience working with Tribal communities in Arizona preferred. Requires a valid Arizona driver’s license, and submit to a background check.
