We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer to support the Airborne Communications and Information Support Services at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Location & Travel: The Senior Engineer position will be a full-time role based in Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and may require up to 10% travel. 

Security Clearance: The Senior Engineer must be a United States Citizen and hold a current Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• The Senior Engineer evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, performs problem isolation and resolution, monitors, tunes, and sets standards for complex communications and IT networks.
•  Maintains a complex range of components and systems; provides client consulting and training on the interfacing and use of IT and communications networks; plans and coordinates IT and communications network initiatives.
• Researches, evaluates, and recommends new equipment and technologies; utilizes monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, gauge system performance, and trace data and protocol activity.
• Develops and executes contingency plans for software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages; and provides consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, management and customer stakeholders.
• Independent problem solving with a variety of system engineering abilities, including knowledge and experience in requirements development, verification and testing.
• Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and be able to quickly adapt to emerging requirements and changing priorities. 

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor’s degree 8 years' relevant experience or HS diploma and 12 years' relevant experience. 
• TS clearance.
• Requires experience with wideband satellite communications.
• Understanding of satellite communications fundamentals and types of satellites (Geosynchronous Earth Orbit, Low Earth Orbit and Medium Earth Orbit).
• Understanding of forward/return link information rates, tail blockage, satellite interference regulations, high throughput satellite frequency reuse schemes, keyhole effect and solar conjunctions.
• Knowledge of radio frequency bands including L, Ku, K, Ka and Q and V bands.
• Knowledge of SATCOM network equipment including antennas, antenna controllers, radio frequency (RF) conversion, modems, end-to-end IP networks using virtual local area networks (VLANs), virtual routing and forwarding (VRF), virtual private networks (VPNs), and National Security Agency (NSA) high assurance internet protocol encryptor (HAIPE) devices.
• Air Force or other DoD experience preferred.
