Intellibee is Hiring a Trauma System Data Analyst Near Indianapolis, IN

Reports to the Trauma System Epidemiologist, IDOH Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention. The incumbent seeks to improve trauma care across the spectrum of trauma system activities by focusing on all aspects of the statewide trauma data collection and analysis, and specifically by directing data provided by ARIES and EMS to perform analyses and record linkage. The analyst will be working and communicating/coordinating with ARIES, EMS, and the IT staff to ensure data transfers and linkages are successful with the trauma registry. The incumbent will prepare data using subject matter expertise with Tableau and other statistical softwares. They will then perform analyses on the data and present findings to stakeholders through public dissemination and dashboard development.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Queries and analyzes trauma registry, ARIES/crash, and EMS data for data requests as necessary, in conjunction with the Data Release Committee;
  • Coordinates data analysis projects with multiple stakeholders based on grant deliverables, specifically the interfacing and linkage/analysis of data to provide information on patient outcomes for crash survivors;
  • Works to integrate ARIES and EMS data with the State Trauma Registry through probabilistic data linking and statistical modeling;
  • Prepares monthly reports and annual progress reports for submission to the granting agency and trauma stakeholders as necessary;
  • Presents trauma data analysis reports and trauma registry data analysis procedures at conferences and meetings where needed;
  • Performs and documents procedures for data preparation including record linkage, data cleaning, standardization, analysis and interpretation;
  • Works with Trauma System Epidemiologist to improve quality, accuracy and timeliness of data submitted to the Registry;
  • Applies principles of good ethical, legal, and public health practice as they relate to data reports, design and data collection, dissemination and use;
  • Works with the Trauma System Epidemiologist to assist independent researchers to mine Registry data while ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained as necessary;
  • Provides operational support for the database to the Division, ensuring data integrity, database availability, and performance;
  • Develops integration of database systems through standardized database design techniques;
  • Develops data collection and evaluation methodologies, including format design, project criteria and requirements, data compilation, relevancy and usage;
  • Incorporates interpersonal skills in communication with agency personnel, colleagues, and the public;
  • Collaborates with trauma stakeholders including the Indiana State Trauma Care Committee and Performance Improvement Subcommittee for best practices in data analysis and effective data reporting;
  • Prepares quarterly rehabilitation reports for performance improvement efforts;
  • Some travel may be required;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Difficulty of work:

Incumbent uses judgment in selecting the guidelines to follow, but also relies on the direction of the Trauma System Epidemiologist. Work is broad in scope and requires in-depth analysis of multiple variables to fit various circumstances of a medium to complex enterprise-wide system.

Responsibility:

Incumbent exercises professional judgment in situations requiring sensitivity and/or confidentiality. Incumbent works closely with higher-level staff and/or management to outline general objectives and boundaries that incumbent will follow to meet the requirements of the agency. Unusual problems or deviations from guidelines or practice are discussed with the Trauma System Epidemiologist and Trauma and Injury Prevention Program Director.

General goals, objectives and problems affecting agency policy and practices are discussed with superiors, but incumbent utilizes own initiative in performing and data analysis of the Indiana Trauma Registry and other data sets. General methodology and handling of procedures are at the discretion of the incumbent. His/ her work is reviewed by superiors concerned for compliance with policy and agency program goals.

Personal work relationships:

Incumbent works primarily with personnel from within the agency, including division staff, other state agency staff, EMS providers, hospital employees and others for the purpose of analyzing trauma registry data. Contacts are for the purpose of informing, gathering information and interpreting that information to arrive at appropriate solutions, provide technical expertise and coordinate workflow. Contacts can involve persuading and negotiating to accomplish mission while maintaining good client relations.
