This is an onsite position.

Business Driver

NCDIT is looking for a network engineer resource that can assist in the staging, configuration, and deployment of new Cisco Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 9000 series of routers which are modular routers intended for service provider (SP) core networks. The resource will be required to stage the hardware at the Eastern Data Center location in Raleigh, apply configurations that will be like for like with current configurations except for best practices where required, and then assist with deployment of these core routers into designated regional POPs across the State.

Skills Required

Need Network Engineer with hands on experience with Cisco ASR Router platforms. Specifically ASR 9902, 9903, 9904 and ASR 9000 Series nV technology. Requires the ability to upgrade OS for suite of ASR routers, physically install these routers into remote WAN POPs. In addition, the candidate will be required to assist with deploying and transitioning services during approved after hour maintenance windows.

The candidate must demonstrate experience in designing, deploying and supporting large scale networks utilizing the following network technologies: OSPF, EBGP, IBGP, Optimized Edge Routing, Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRFs), VRF-Lite, MPLS, Layer 3 Ether-channels, Virtual LANs (VLAN), L2TPVPN, Layer 2 / 3 Ether-channeling, HSRP, Access Control Lists (ACLs), AAA services, TACACS , Radius, NetFlow V5 / V9, IP SLA, NTP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP V2 / V3, Layer 2 / Layer 3 Quality of Service (QoS), Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, IOS-XR, Cisco ISR routers, Cisco ASR routers, and Network Virtualization.

In addition, the Network Engineer needs to have experience and technical skills to accomplish the following assigned responsibilities:

  • Participate on project teams focusing on network infrastructure systems to ensure information technology information issues are addressed.
  • High degree of customer service, teamwork, effective communications, organizational awareness, and technical leadership.
  • Implement new releases of service components into the operational environment following well-defined controlled processes of change, configuration, and release management.
  • Coordinate deployment and implementation projects for networking services provided to agencies.
  • Develop implementation and deployment plans and coordinate with agencies beforehand during the execution of the plans.
  • Perform fault isolation and remediation to ensure service availability is optimal.
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis tasks to accurately determine the true source of pervasive problems.
  • Analyze system Known Errors to determine the most effective solution and implementations according to the Problem Management processes.
  • Follow work processes and procedures to ensure quick and effective resolution to technical problems.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of others and manage projects through implementation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written format.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hands-on-experience, as a Senior Engineer, designing, implementing, and managing networking technology solutions in large scale enterprise environments which include the following network types: Service Provider Networks, Wide Area Networks, Data Center Networks, Metro Ethernet Switching and Routed Networks.

Certifications - Optional

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional and Cisco Certified Design Professional Certifications or the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Certification or the Cisco Certified Design Expert Certification.
  • Completed the ITIL Foundations Certification
