SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for the analysis of medical records and assignment of accurate ICD9CM and/or ICD10CM/PCS diagnostic and procedural codes, as well as CPT-4 procedural codes, for all inpatient, short stay, and observation services to assure accurate hospital re-imbursement. Work with physicians, administrative and financial staff as required assuring valid code assignments and/or clarification for timely billing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• High school diploma required

• Associates Degree in Health Information Technology or Nursing or successful completion of a coding certificate program or current enrollment in a coding certificate program

• Current or future eligibility for certification (RHIT or CCS or CCS-P)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive skill level of basic office software required. Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior coding experience is highly preferred.
