Integrated Facility Services is Hiring an Energy Specialist Project Engineer Near St Louis, MO

Growth oriented multi-disciplined Mechanical Contracting firm is currently seeking a Energy Specialist focusing on energy conservation projects. The Project Engineer is to complete controls engineering and construction projects by designing, planning, organizing and controlling all elements of the project. Integrated Facility Services is a leading mechanical contractor with more than 55 years history serving the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area, as well as an office serving outstate Missouri.

The tasks related to an Energy Specialist and Project Engineer are numerous and varied. Each project has different specifications, goals, environmental conditions, and financial considerations. The duties will vary depending on the specific project and he/she may handle the aspects of a project either in whole or in part as assigned.

Energy Specialist Job Duties:

  • Identifies utility rebate opportunities to help reduce cost of equipment or operational improvements, performing economic and energy analysis.
  • Perform energy audits
  • Inspect energy systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting to determine potential energy saving measures
  • Perform energy modeling, measurement, verification, commissioning, or retro commissioning
  • Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans to evaluate energy efficiency and or feasibility.
  • Verify energy bills and meter readings
  • Recommends policies and procedures for effective, efficient, and economical operations.
  • Recommends and develops utility management measures related to building HVAC and lighting.
  • Prepares reports relating to utility management operations and performance.
  • Works with local utility company incentive programs to motivate customers to install more efficient systems and to upsell existing projects.

Project Engineer Job Duties:

  • Engages in several levels of field engineering, assisting with project execution, trade coordination, scheduling, document management, and problem solving.
  • Work with customers and support salesmen on a pre/post sales basis to investigate and determine design possibilities, customer requirements and performance standards, determine project scope of work and specifications it will follow. Presents cost estimates (creates or assists in the creation of the cost estimate) with the goal of meeting the performance standards.
  • Assists with the development of the project design documents, engaging in team review of designs/deliverables and document decisions.
  • Design and plan layout of controls for mechanical equipment.
  • Reviews project requirements then works with the Vice President of Automation and the Project Team including Salesman, CAD, and Project Manager as applicable to develop project objectives to oversee the completion of the design and construction documents from permitting to construction to as-builts. Identifies project responsibilities by determining the phases and elements of the project. Calculates time frames and sequences the stages of the project based on information given or obtained.
  • Assists and or manages the project execution, trade coordination, scheduling, document management, and problem solving.
  • Reviews and approves bids, RFI's, submittals, and change requests from suppliers and subcontractors for completeness, errors or omissions.
  • Through project coordination meetings and other forms of communication, oversees and coordinates the technical aspects of the project.
  • For projects which he or she is responsible for they will prepare status reports, budgets, schedules, schedule of values, change orders and regularly monitors such reports. Works closely with Labor Coordinator and other resource managers to keep project needs on-track. Allocates project resources appropriately and reviews and approves job cost expenditures. Keeps an accurate record and electronic database of all elements of the projects.
  • Contributes toward driving the development of engineering practice standards and HVAC standards from conceptual designs through construction drawing development
  • Assist in the training of new hire engineers/designers/interns
  • Report to your supervisor unsafe or unhealthful behavior or situations that could affect you or your co-workers
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Energy Specialist Qualifications:

  • Certified Energy Manager and or other Association of Energy Engineers certifications is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience showing proficiency in conduction energy calculations both simply calculations and through computerized software such as Carrier HAP.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate utility usage from equipment including (server systems, HVAC equipment, lighting systems, and process equipment).
  • Ability to read and understand building automation/management systems.
  • An understanding of the different forms of energy services.

Project Engineer Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in controls system estimating and/or project management; or degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or HVAC/R Engineering Technology
  • LEED Certification is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience showing proficiency in conducting load calculations, systems design, layouts, and trade coordination is a must.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction documents along with the ability to comprehend project specification requirements; keep detailed records and possess good organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in maintaining client relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people through oral presentations and written communications
  • Ability to use computerized estimating software and project management software such as Microsoft project or other Gantt Charting Programs. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook).

  • Honesty, attention to detail, ability to keep trade information confidential.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
  • Ability to create and maintain friendly relationships with customers and co-workers..
  • Familiarity with good safety practices and complete at least an OSHA 10 hour course.
