About the Process Engineer Role

Working as a Process Engineer at Intech will give you the opportunity to learn the start-to-finish process of creating a complex spinal and orthopedic instrument. You will use sound and proven engineering principles, best practices, and concepts to assist in developing processes and process requirements from internal and external stakeholders. Our current need is for a New Product Introduction (NPI) Process Engineer. The NPI Process Engineer leads the technical team, making decisions on technology and development methodologies. They ensure that the product is technically feasible and delivered according to specifications. Focuses on the manufacturability of the product, ensuring that it can be produced efficiently, cost-effectively, and at scale.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for new products. This includes designing processes, selecting appropriate materials, and determining the best methods to meet quality and efficiency goals.
  • Work closely with product designers and engineers to understand the product specifications and design intent. Provide input on design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) to ensure the product can be produced efficiently.
  • Oversee the creation of prototypes and pilot runs. Analyze the results to identify areas for process improvement and make necessary adjustments before full-scale production.
  • Create and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flowcharts, and quality control procedures.
  • Implement quality control measures and conduct inspections to ensure products meet quality standards.
  • Work closely with quality assurance teams to identify and address any quality issues promptly.
  • Work with production planners to develop production schedules and capacity plans.
  • Ensure that production processes are aligned with demand forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize production costs without compromising product quality.
  • Explore efficient manufacturing techniques, automation, and alternative methods to reduce expenses.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing process. Analyze production data, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Train production staff on new processes, equipment, and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure that the team can produce high-quality products efficiently.
  • Address production issues as they arise, troubleshoot problems, and implement corrective actions. Analyze root causes and prevent recurrence of production-related problems.
  • Ensure that the manufacturing processes comply with industry regulations and standards. Stay updated on relevant regulations and make necessary adjustments to processes to maintain compliance.
  • Communicate regularly with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, quality assurance, and management, to provide updates on the manufacturing process, challenges, and solutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Thoroughly understands how to read and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts on part prints to effectively run quality parts.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing environment, competing demands and is able to deal well with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Advanced mathematical abilities to include knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Experience with CAD Autodesk Inventor Preferred.
  • Critical thinking and advanced decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to identify different materials and their relationship to design (form, fit, and function).
  • High level of attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping capability.
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, follow, and document work instructions, blueprints, routers, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate and assist team members, provide input to the area lead, and attend/participate effectively in meetings.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively, professionally, and constructively.
  • Comply with and maintain 5S and safe work environment practices.
  • Experienced in a medical device, ISO/FDA, job shop environment preferred.
  • Ability to work the necessary hours and adjust their schedule accordingly to ensure the work is complete on time.

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in Process Engineer role in advanced operation.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field; or equivalent combination of related experience and/or training.
  • Technical degree preferred. Will accept High School Diploma, GED, Trade School, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in ISO/FDA machine shop, contract manufacturer experience preferred.
