Job Summary

As the Unit Psychologist for the 2S adult unit in our acute psychiatric inpatient setting, this role holds a pivotal leadership position within the multidisciplinary treatment teams on the unit. A key member of the multidisciplinary leadership team, the incumbent will collaborate closely with nursing and psychiatry leaders to spearhead programmatic changes aimed at enhancing patient/staff safety, improving the quality of care, reducing restraint/seclusion incidents, increasing staff satisfaction and retention rates, decreasing length of stay, and advancing clinical programming. The position will carry clinical responsibilities including but not limited to group therapy, individual therapy, crisis intervention, and milieu therapy. The position is not only focused on the immediate inpatient environment but also extends its leadership impact to broader initiatives within the Hartford Healthcare Behavioral Health Network, taking an active role in annual improvement projects and leading efforts to implement Trauma-Informed Care across all inpatient and emergency departments.

Job Responsibilities

Function as the unit psychologist for one of the adult units in an acute psychiatric inpatient setting. The service includes a 24-bed adult unit for ages 18-65. Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

• Leadership: Imbedded within the multidisciplinary treatment teams on the unit and a member of the multidisciplinary leadership team. Collaborate closely with nursing and psychiatry leaders to identify opportunities for and barriers to programmatic change targeting patient/staff safety and quality by reducing restraint/seclusion, increasing staff satisfaction and retention, decreasing length of stay, and enhancing clinical programming.
• Education and Training: Develop and facilitate education and training for all inpatient disciplines. Topics include Trauma-Informed Care, Milieu Management, and psychoeducation on mental illness and diagnoses.
• Milieu Management: Support unit staff in creating and maintaining safe, trauma-informed milieus. Assist with crisis intervention and patient de-escalation. Facilitate debriefings with staff and patients after a restraint or critical incident. Conduct root-cause analyses post critical safety events to identify areas for growth. Coordination and management of Individual Behavior Plans and Patient Support Plans.
• Program Development: Develop and lead psychotherapy groups and oversee clinical group programming. Assist with creation and action with continuous improvement ideas. Active leadership role in creating, implementing, and monitoring fidelity of clinical care pathways. Ensure clinical case formulation and clinical treatment targets are incorporated into treatment.
• Hartford Healthcare Behavioral Health Network Initiatives: Lead and participate in annual improvement priorities for Hartford Healthcare's Behavioral Health Network. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary consultation team to other HHC inpatient and behavioral health emergency departments for patients with increased risk of aggression towards others.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA accredited institution.
• One year APA approved internship in Clinical Psychology.
• Completion of one year post internship supervisory experience.
• Licensed to practice Psychology in the State of Connecticut.
• Training and experience in an adult psychiatric inpatient setting or related settings
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-directed and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic
