Institute for Effective Behavioral Interventions is Hiring a Behavioral Specialist Near San Fernando, CA

What to expect as a Behavior Therapist:

1. Entry-level position (some experience required) with scheduled hours based on your availability, qualifications, and performance. Services are provided to clients Monday-Friday between the peak hours of 3:00PM-8:00PM.

2. Provide services at our center in Van Nuys or commute directly to the client's home. Service areas include: Panorama City, Van Nuys, Canoga Park, Woodland Hills, Pacoima, Sylmar, Sun Valley, Winnetka, Reseda, Northridge, Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood, Studio City, and other locations within the San Fernando Valley.

3. Work with children and adolescents typically between ages 3-18 diagnosed with autism and other developmental diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Speech delays).

4. Continuous support in your clinical and career goals. Constructive feedback is provided during session overlaps with supervisors and clinic meetings.

5. Regular annual pay increases based on performance.

Responsibilities of the Behavior Therapist:

1. Create and maintain rapport with clients to facilitate ongoing learning and an effective therapeutic relationship.

2. Conduct 1:1 ABA sessions with assigned clients in their home and/or center. Supervision overlaps are offered by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst every 1-2 weeks, remotely or in person.

3. Collect accurate data and observation notes using IEBI's electronic system (Centralreach).

4. Work collaboratively with client's, families, and colleagues through proper communication and implementation of provided feedback.

5. Maintain professional composure while working with a variety of clients, including those that engage in self-injurious behaviors (SIB) or clients exhibiting frustration, aggressive or repetitive behaviors.

6. Maintain a minimum of 90% attendance rate every month with assigned clients.

Requirements for the Behavior Therapist:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Minimum availability required: 4 days during the week (Monday-Friday) between peak hours of 3:00PM-8:00PM (required) *Commitment to this availability for 90 days from hire date*
  • Attend mandatory 2-week paid training, Monday-Friday ranging from 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. before being sent out to the field. Typically 25-30 hours worth of training within these 2 weeks (required)
  • TB (Tuberculosis) test clearance (required)
  • Live Scan (DOJ/FBI) clearance (required)
  • Experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities as a teacher assistant, behavior therapist, behavior technician, behavior interventionist (BI), direct support professional, paraprofessional or instructional aide (preferred)
  • Knowledge of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) or other courses in psychology (preferred)
  • Bilingual - Spanish/Armenian/ASL/Korean (preferred)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, early childhood education, special education, criminal justice, child development, or liberal studies (preferred)

At the Institute for Effective Behavioral Interventions (IEBI), we provide state of the art behavioral intervention services using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to assist children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities and their families. We believe that with quality therapy, a team approach, and always putting our clients first, we can help them learn the skills they need to be independent, happy, and uniquely themselves. Our programs are tailored to the specific needs of each individual. The goals of the programs might include increasing communication, cognitive functions, daily living, motor/gross skills, behavioral management, and self-monitoring, as well as replacing maladaptive behavior.

We provide comprehensive training prior to your first session in the clients' homes or our center as well as ongoing support from your case supervisor. Therapists will implement programs in order to help their clients reach their goals while maintaining a fun learning environment based on each clients' strengths and preferences.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
