Summary/Objective

The Resident Engagement Manager’s (Program Manager) primary responsibility is ensuring that the overall quality of life for resident engagement as outlined in Validus Senior Living philosophy is fulfilled. The Resident Engagement Manager serves as a part of the Community leadership team to ensure company policies and procedures are understood, trained and implemented. S(he) is responsible for the achievement of all The Standards of Excellence in their Community.

Essential Functions

1. Participates in Community leadership decision-making as to have a positive impact on Community business operations including management of department budget and Associates

2. Provides subject matter expertise to the management team regarding associate and resident engagement and quality of life

3. Leads, trains, and ensures Resident Engagement Coordinators are using the Positive Approach to Care in all resident encounters

4. Participates in annual resident satisfaction survey initiatives and addresses resident complaints and grievances

5. Participates in the review of individual residents’ service plans and regularly documents progress

6. Participate in discharge planning with other members of the management team

7. Negotiates and manages Community contracts in matters such as contract labor, vendors and entertainers

8. Responds appropriately to resident emergencies, using independent judgment for “in the moment” decisions. May also assist with disaster management efforts and activities during evacuations, (i.e. hurricanes, etc.)

9. Ensures that Resident Programs meet all state and federal regulations as well as the Resident Programs Standards or Excellence. Ensures programs standards are the foundation of all Community programs and events (See Appendix A.)

10. Plans, develops and implements creative and exciting Resident Programs to meet individual needs and interests of residents within the Community as well as through outside trips and events; including coordination of one-to-one programming for residents who cannot participate in a group setting

11. Ensures resident welcome and engagement protocols are in place

12. Ensures specialty programs are scheduled according to the Resident Program Annual Master Calendar

13. Manages a volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and supervising volunteers

14. Ensures specialty programs are scheduled according to the Resident Program Annual Master Calendar

15. Ensures marketing, promotional, and communication materials used are of professional quality

16. Ensures the Community environment (including equipment and supplies) supports a whole-person wellness culture for resident engagement

17. Coordinates the transportation of residents to and from events outside of the Community, which may include driving a Community motor vehicle

18. Performs Manager On Duty rotations

19. Other duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Skills

Directly supervise the Resident Engagement Coordinators and volunteers in the Community. Recruit, hire, and train, new Associates. Oversee daily activities of all direct reports; discipline and develop the staff to ensure compliance; lead the Community’s Associates with a focus on compassionate care, resident satisfaction, Associate satisfaction and operational excellence.

Work Environment

Works in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and as physically, physiologically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at any particular time. On occasion, there may be exposure to outdoor spaces, which will, by their nature, have variances in air quality, temperature, walking surfaces, lighting, and other physical aspects. Because the essential functions may require exposure to bodily functions and infectious waste, diseases, odors and other situations Associated with health care, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 2 and 3**, environmental and safety conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position of Resident Engagement Manager, an applicant/employee will need to possess the ability to work in an environment conducive to caring for residents without posing a substantial safety or health threat to one’s self or others.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent body movements include, lifting, moving, transferring, bending, stooping, squatting and reaching. Able to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds, unassisted, with twisting and turning of the torso. Ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.

Certifications, Licenses, Education and Experience and other Special Requirements

The Resident Engagement Manager should have a Bachelor’s degree in recreation, health education or related field with two or more years of direct programming experience, preferably with adults; or a combination of education and experience. The ability to apply existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department is required. S(he) also need to use sound judgement and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, or reasonableness or combination of these. S(he) must also possess extensive knowledge of and understanding of the organization and work environment. Proficiency with MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license free from significant points or violations.
