MAJOR FUNCTION:
The Mobile Intensive Care Nurse/Specialty Care Transport Nurse (MICN/SCTN) provides prehospital and intrahospital advanced life support to victims of sudden illness or injury in the designated service areas of the EMS system, and provides appropriate mutual aid assistance when requested by adjacent EMS services and transferring hospitals, The (MICN/SCTN) demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages, inclusive of neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Additionally, the Mobile Intensive Care Nurse/SCTU-RN demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to access data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age-specific needs.
In addition, the MICN/SCTN will provide nursing care to the level of their license for all intra-facility transports conducted by the SCTU Service line. Including the use of ventilators, balloon pumps, multiple intravenous medication administrations, and any other device, treatment modality, or therapeutic process, required by the patient during transport.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
A nursing degree is mandatory from a NLN accredited school.
BSN required for all new hires by December 2019
B. Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience on one or a combination of Transport experience and/or Pre hospital advanced life support and/or Critical care and /or emergency department. Should have experience with basic life support response
C. Certification/Licensure:
Must possess RN-EMT or be eligible for certification within the 100 day probationary period mobile intensive care registered nurse (MICN), as indicated by N.J.A.C. 8:41. Additionally, the employee will maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and either Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Care for the Pre-hospital Provider-Advanced (PEPP-A). Completion of Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within the probationary period is required. Incident Command to the 300 level (IC-300) is preferred, required within 100 days of hire. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license. Candidates with CEN, CCRN will be preferred.
