Job Summary:
Our Quality & Infection Control Professional is a passionate, dedicated, detail oriented individual who aims to provide Patient Care Second to None! The Quality & Infection Control Professional works under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, collaborating with other organizational leaders, and is responsible for the hospital’s ongoing quality reporting to regulatory agencies such as QualityNet, National Hospital Safety Network (NHSN), and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). The Quality & Infection Control Professional actively contributes to the weekly operation of the Hospital, building relationships with other departments, and looks for additional ways to positively impact the organization while focusing on performance improvement and patient safety. This role interacts with key business and clinical leaders, while being a valuable resource to employees, too. Top candidates for this role show a strong initiative and sense of accountability, with the ability to work with a wonderfully diverse population. This Nurse will also have a role in our Flint, MI headquarter operations, and therefore will have occasional travel to this site, and will be eligible for mileage reimbursement.

Duties:
  • Monitors organizational compliance with Federal, State and voluntary standards
  • Provides data transmission and abstraction to required CMS quality improvement organization (QIO)
  • Participates in ongoing governmental and regulatory compliance tracers and audits
  • Monitors the performance improvement processes and activities to continually measure and improve quality through a systematic, organization-wide effort that supports and ensures patient safety practices and drives positive, sustainable change
  • Performs infection control surveillance that includes surgical site infections, readmissions, returns to surgery, and other healthcare acquired conditions (HACs)
  • Collects data, conducts chart reviews, interviews personnel, physicians, and patients to actively identify root causes of noncompliance, infections, and other HACs as assigned by the CNO
  • Tracks ongoing education needs and expirations of the nursing staff
  • Follows up with employees to ensure compliance with Insight Surgical Hospital, state, and federal requirements and ISH policies and procedures
  • May perform educational activities as assigned by the CNO
  • Collaborates with physicians, department managers, and staff to promote successful projects
  • Develops reports and may participate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Oversees the collection of data, statistical analysis of data, and may present data to staff and physicians.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates eligibility to work for any employer in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated skills in Healthcare leadership is preferred
  • Ability to ocassionally travel to our HQ in Flint, MI (mileage reimbursement available)
  • Current RN License for State of Michigan or Master's of Public Health and BLS Certification (or must obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or five years experience in the field required
  • Demonstrates outstanding English communication skills, both written and verbal, for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
  • Ability to influence others and get results without formal authority
  • Previous experience in facilitating and leading change is preferred 
  • Computer literate and has working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel
  • Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement/Utilization review/infection control is desired
  • Ability to identify areas of improvement to offer and initiate solutions for the betterment of the organization
  • Relates and works effectively with others; thrives in a team environment
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Able to work under pressure and in situations that benefit from patience, tact, stamina and endurance
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for professional advancement. 
  • Must complete APIC’s courses Epidemiology-101 within 90 days, and must complete Epidemiology-102 within 6 months.
  • Able to work with difficult coworkers and patients compassionately to exhibit excellent customer service
  • Exudes respect and flexibility to impact the workplace in a positive manner.
  • Able to perform to a high level of accuracy
  • Is aware of standards and performs in accordance with them
  • Must be prompt and reliable
