Insight Enterprises, Inc. Peninsula Center for Independent Living is a small business in Hampton, VA. We are professional, inclusive, rewarding and our goal is to provide independent living services to people with disabilities. We are designed and operated by people with disabilities.
Duties:
Collaborate as needed with local agencies, housing providers, and state departments to support independent living and self-determination for persons with disabilities
Assist consumers, housing providers, and agency partners in understanding various community support services that aid persons with disabilities in living independently
Possess professionalism when speaking to consumers, legislators, families, community partners and others while upholding the upmost level of customer service
To assist with intake/assessments and Information and Referral as directed
Provide information regarding accessibility, the ADA, housing rights laws and local regulations to promote disability rights, human rights, and civil rights for all.
To document all activities with participants and consultations according to IEPCIL policies and procedures and develop Independent Living Plans (ILPs) with consumers
To assist consumers requesting housing information. Assist in tracking their progress and working to mitigate barriers as they arise
Conduct trainings on topics for consumers. Topics can range information sessions, peer lead groups, skills training workshops, budgeting, money management, dating, parenting, and many other topics connected to independent living
Provide information to consumers regarding communicable diseases that could result in severe illness or death, such as influenza, SARS, Covid-19 (and other covid-19 related virus), HIV, and others
Actively assist consumers in mitigating barriers in their lives relative to their ability to live independently
Develop an Independent Living Plans (ILPs) with associated goals for each consumer. Frequently review goal process with consumers.
Ensure all documentation necessary to meet contractual obligations is accurate, submitted timely, and complete
Experience:
High School Diploma, personal experience with disability and/or knowledge of disability culture and/or etiquette.
Must possess good written and verbal communication skills; easily establish rapport with other individuals both within and outside of the organization.
An advocate should have or develop a knowledge of other disabling conditions, community resources, disability justice, ect.
Advocate and learn to fully grasp and embody the philosophy of the Independent Living movement and promote equal rights for all people with disabilities.
