Job Summary

As a Senior Designer, you will be responsible for applying Environments’ creative expertise and design services to support new and existing clients. You will work closely with cross-functional peers to program, design, specify, coordinate, and implement furniture solutions, practicing high standards for design and customer satisfaction. You will collaborate with our Sales and Account Management teams to engage customers and industry influencers in forward-thinking discussions and workshops to solve strategic challenges within their organizations, using your creativity, skills, and expertise. You will use your expertise and leadership internally to delegate and oversee work for the design team. This role is a high-visibility, high-impact opportunity to drive Environments’ workplace design and brand work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Including but not limited to:

  • Team Leadership
  • Assume responsibility for the overall completion of projects including programming, strategic planning, conceptual designs, space planning, presentations, design development, and production.
  • Review incoming requests for ancillary and technical design support and delegate and manage team assignments, ensuring workloads are appropriately balanced and supported and deliverables are met.
  • Analyze sales projections, design team activity and team feedback to ensure optimum deployment of design resources. Work with individuals to reconcile schedules, priorities, and deadlines to ensure optimum client experience and project accuracy. 
  • Conduct design department reporting analysis and monitoring of design hours to achieve minimum of 70% billable time applied to project proposals. 
  • Manage and record billable hours, cultivate efficiencies, and reduce errors.
  • Foster a collaborative team approach, provide mentorship, and partner with individuals and team leads to identify and drive continuous process improvement. 
  • Design and Production 
  • Provide design services including but not limited to programming, space planning, 2D / 3D typical development for systems furniture, renderings, working/installation drawings, specification, and site-to-plan review.
  • Create curated ancillary product and finish packages to include furniture, textiles, acoustic treatments, technology, branding and graphics, architectural elements, and ergonomic solutions.
  • Produce technical product specifications with consideration of pricing, discounting, and project budget objectives.
  • Provide design support for bids and RFPs.
  • Participate in client presentations and engagements to develop solutions and position Design services. 
  • Establish and manage design project budgets, project scope, contracts, and coordinate deliverables with internal and outsourced design resources.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Industry Knowledge
  • Develop vendor relationships to enhance our product offering and leverage key partnerships.
  • Participate in ongoing learning around strategic areas of focus, including partner products and solutions, sustainable design, design tools and technology, and workplace strategy.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position supervises Design Team members.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience Required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience with emphasis on commercial furniture systems planning and design. 
  • Working knowledge of CET Designer.
  • High level of proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of CAP 20/20 preferred.
  • Prior experience successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Working knowledge of contract furniture lines 
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA regulations, National Electrical Code, etc.
  • Understanding of the complexities and sophistication required to thrive in the dealer environment. 
  • Fluid interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide range of customers, vendors, personnel, and departments. 
  • Ability to see the big picture and integrate into day-to-day tasks and activities. 
  • Excellent and effective oral and written communication. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in business transactions, and to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction.
