Description

Key Responsibilities

• Supervising the daily operations of the kennel and assisting kennel staff with patient care and restraint, and cleaning
• Establish protocols, handle food and supply inventories, organize and assist with facility maintenance
• Handle the pressures and stresses that always develop in the course of kennel management with poise and tact
• Maintain constant vigilance regarding open doorways that could allow pets to escape from the facility
• Ensuring the cages, runs and the overall facility is cleaned on a regular basis
• Ensuring the patients are groomed, fed, exercised, and monitoring the well-being of pets

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• A high school diploma required
• Patience and experience working with animals and people
• Confidence working with difficult and sometimes aggressive pets
• Sufficient business aptitude and skills to handle the financial affairs of the kennel
• Aptitude for and the skills to maintain and repair the kennel facility
• Physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
• Handle repetitive up and down or back and forth motions, and work while bending
• Know and use basic medical abbreviations and use proper medical terminology when speaking and writing
• Be reasonably familiar with dog and cat breeds and coat colors
• Be reasonably familiar with the names and colors of other species commonly boarded
