Innovative Lighting is Hiring a Shipping/Receiving Manager Near Story, IA

The Shipping and Receiving Manager is responsible for the efficient management of all shipping, receiving, and inventory control operations. This includes ensuring that all products are shipped in a timely manner and per customer specifications and in accordance with Company standards. The Shipping and Receiving Manager is also responsible for inventory control including implementing and maintaining efficient, accurate, and automated processes and procedures utilizing bar coding or similar technology. Responsible for the maintenance of accurate and complete records of all incoming and outgoing shipments and for alerting appropriate personnel when shipments are delayed or when critical items are received. Ensures that items needed for production are pulled and delivered in accordance with current work orders utilizing Lean processes.

This is an onsite position at our Story City, IA location.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all shipping, receiving, and inventory control operations within the warehouse and ensures timely transfers of materials from the warehouse in accordance with sales and work orders.
  • Ensures proper staging of outgoing shipments and internal transfers of materials.
  • Ensures that the warehouse is organized in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with Lean and 5S principles.
  • Maintains a computer automated inventory and management system to ensure actual physical inventory matches database logical inventory. Investigates and corrects inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintains effective communication between various departments within the Company regarding ship dates, changes in delivery methods, arrival of materials, inventory shortages or overages, and other pertinent issues.
  • Ensures that shipments are made in accordance with customer preferences and Company procedures. This shall include the correct items, quantity, packaging, and method of shipment. Ensures that shipments are prepared in accordance with carrier procedures including all required documentation and bills of lading.
  • Ensures the daily verification of counts, weights, and part numbers of incoming shipments.
  • Ensures that all safety rules and procedures are followed throughout the warehouse.
  • May be assigned additional responsibilities and duties.

Skills

  • He/She must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work within the Company’s team and with other personnel within the organization. He/She must also be able to interact appropriately with the Company’s customers, vendors and other professionals engaged by the Company.
  • Requires computer, basic math, and data entry skills. Requires proficiency in MS Office. Requires ability to learn to effectively use DBA/EVO software package.
  • Knowledge and experience working with UPS, FedEx, and other carriers, including and understanding of carrier policies and procedures.
  • Requires a solid understanding of internal and domestic shipping requirements and familiarity with regulations including NAFTA and overseas customs requirements.
  • Ability to implement and follow Lean processes.
  • Requires the ability to prioritize tasks and requests in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Requires ability to safely operate forklift and pallet jack.

Education and Experience

  • Prior experience (3-5 years) in shipping and receiving.
  • Requires previous experience with inventory control and inventory tracking.
  • Previous experience implementing Lean Processes or Six Sigma is desired.
  • Previous experience with bar coding is desired.

Physical Demands

  • Requires ability to work under a moderate degree of stress associated with heavy workload and strict deadlines.
  • Primarily a physically active position. Frequently requires ability to walk, carry, climb stairs, reach, crouch, bend, and kneel. Occasionally requires ability to perform more sedentary work.
  • Frequently requires ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Occasionally requires ability to lift and carry more than 50 pounds.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a fork lift, computer keyboard, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
