Innovative Health Management Partner/Newport Orthopedic Institute is Hiring a Medical Assistant (Front/Back Office) Near Los Angeles, CA

Gyn Oncology Specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional care to the community and is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Medical Assistant to join its dynamic team of healthcare professionals.

The Medical Assistant (Front/Back Office) will support a busy gynecologic oncology medical office by performing front and back-office duties. This position is responsible for duties including, but not limited to, greeting patients, answering phone calls, rooming patients, helping patients schedule appointments, collecting insurance and health information, and inputting all relevant data into our electronic health records. The Medical Assistant (Front/Back Office) will also perform back-office duties such as taking vitals, assisting providers with exams and procedures, and setting up and cleaning exam rooms. This position is for a private gynecologic oncology practice in Los Angeles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Front Office:

  • Greeting and interacting with patients
  • Coordinating patient care
  • Answering telephones, taking messages, and directing calls appropriately
  • Checking patients in and out; verifying and updating necessary information in medical records
  • Completing data entry, mail management, and scanning
  • Maintaining appointment schedule by following office-scheduling policies
  • Checking insurance verification/authorizations for tests and surgeries
  • Collecting co-pays and occasionally handling finances
  • Other duties as assigned

Back Office:

  • Prepares for the day by assuring that all medical records, test results and films are available for the physician.
  • Assures exam rooms are clean and ready for next patient; prepares rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Puts charts up for physician when patient is ready in exam room.
  • Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms and back to check-out after exam.
  • Prepares patients for exam or treatment.
  • Assists physicians during examinations and minor procedures as directed by the physician, including suture/stitch removal and dressing removal/applications, etc.
  • Documents all patient correspondence in NextGen, whether the encounter is in person, by phone, fax or e-mail.
  • Orders and maintains supplies from company-approved vendors in coordination with other MAs; stocks exam rooms and maintains equipment for patient treatment.
  • Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Approves pharmacy requests for prescription refills according to physician protocol.
  • Performs and documents patient education.
  • Obtains and reviews all test results and reports ordered by physician. Presents abnormal results to physician for immediate review. Assures all results and reports are in the medical record for physician to review and approve.
  • Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory.
  • Cleans and closes down sterilization equipment at the end of the day.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical assisting certification preferred

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Korean required
  • Minimum of two years of back-office medical assisting experience in oncology, gynecology, family practice, or surgery required
  • Microsoft Office, EMR (NextGen preferred), and other medical software experience preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills

Pay Range: $21-24 hourly depending on experience
