PURPOSE:

The R&D Chemist’s role is primarily to lead projects, support plant processes, and run Analytical instrumentation to meet the needs of the General Manager, Production, and New Product Development for the Business according to ICT company standards and client specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Perform bench scale synthesis.
• Conduct performance and quality / specification evaluations of developmental products.
• Analyze product properties.
• Assist QC in production batch adjustments as required.
• Support the proper maintenance and execution of the ICT chemical inventory system.
• Maintain lab and general work area by ensuring it is organized, clean, and free of safety hazards.

• Follow appropriate procedures for the safe collection, labeling, and disposal of chemicals.

• Assist the production of commercial batches, i.e. weighing lab scale catalytic charges, etc.
• Run Analytical instrumentation to meet the needs of the General Manager, Production, and New Product Development for the Business.
• Ability to run reactions and some knowledge of supporting industrial plant processes.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science, Chemistry degree, or higher required.
• Must have 2-4 years of experience and working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and auto titration instruments.

Equipment Use:

• Use of Gas Chromatograph (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Spectroscopy
• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) must be used at all times while in the lab - gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, respirators and face shields (when necessary, with formal training); appropriate facial grooming required to ensure effectiveness.
• Occasional lifting up to 50lbs

Additional helpful qualifications, but not required:

• Knowledge of Organic Synthesis (esters, surfactants, polymers)
• Experience in surfactant-based formulations (textiles, HI&I, personal Care)
• Experience with colloidal silica
