DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

OVERVIEW: As a Maintenance Technician for Innospec Performance Chemicals, you will be responsible for installation, maintenance and improvement of process equipment using advanced machine repair and metal fabrication skills. You must be highly quality-conscious, aggressively self-directed, a motivated team player, and willing and eager to gain and share new knowledge. Using technical drawings and schematics, troubleshoot and repair complex process and facilities equipment.

SUMMARY

  • Use machine tools, welding equipment, and measuring devices to fabricate machine parts,various mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical equipment, and lawn equipment
  • Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks (i.e., cleaning, inspection, and lubrication) as necessary, but routinely in cases requiring advanced technical expertise and knowledge of safety procedures (e.g., electrical cabinets, machine interiors, etc.)
  • Thoroughly document maintenance activity using the maintenance database, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees (e.g., other maintenance techs, operators, engineers, supervisors, etc.), and properly utilize the maintenance inventory system
  • Champion process improvement in assigned areas by analyzing equipment maintenance history, identifying significant causes of waste, coordinating with appropriate employees to develop root-cause solutions, and providing maintenance assistance as necessary
  • Provide Preventative Maintenance support for plant and equipment
  • Repair and maintain items necessary to maintain process equipment in “Grade A” condition
  • Assist in day-to-day support of operators, adjustments, setups, and change overs
  • Assist other maintenance technicians as required
  • Participate on improvement teams and coordinate with engineers and vendors on special projects
  • Perform other duties as requested by management
  • Shift and 'on-call' work is required, due to manufacturing equipment in continual 24-hour operation
  • Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by Innospec and the department

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a chemical facility
  • Must obtain lockout certification and be able to wear OSHA approved safety gear
  • Advanced mechanical /electrical skills (PLC troubleshooting skills preferred)
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to follow, retain and communication detailed instructions
  • Ability to follow Innospec policies and procedures
  • Ability to get along with others, follow instructions and support teammates
  • Exceptional attendance, punctuality, and work ethic
  • Positive attitude with ability to work a fast-paced environment
  • Strong safety, quality, and customer orientation
  • Ability to work within a team to reach a common goal

  • Must willingly accept any other duties/changes to position to fit the needs for production as requested by Manager and/or Supervisor

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical Activity Requirements: Employee must seek staff assistance or use appropriate lifting devices when lifting or carrying items over 40 lbs. Employee must be aware that during the normal, routine performance of the essential functions, some of the following body movements may occur naturally, although they may not be a requirement of the job.

Primary Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: up to 10 lbs. Constantly; 11 to 25 lbs. Frequently; 26 to 50 lbs. Occasionally; over 50 lbs. Rarely
  • Carrying: up to 10 lbs. Constantly; 11 to 25 lbs. Frequently; 26 to 50 lbs. Rarely; over 50 lbs. Rarely
  • Reaching: above, at, and below shoulder height Constantly
  • Constant bending, crawling, squatting, stretching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling
  • Hand Manipulation:Constant grasping and handling. Frequent torqueing and fingering
  • During an 8-hour day, Employee must:

-Sit one or more hours consecutively and up to six total hours
-Stand two or more hours consecutively and up to seven total hours
-Walk two or more hours consecutively and up to four total hours

Cognitive and Sensory Requirements:

  • Hearing, sight, tasting, and smelling

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and working with chemicals.
  • Requires the usage of personal protective equipment which includes gloves, safety glasses, and may involve protective clothing up to and including a respirator at times
  • Work Surface: Varies from carpeting, linoleum, tile, concrete, gravel, dirt, and grass.
