Field Mechanical Equipment Coordinator

Our Fortune 500 client, a leader in the automotive industry, is seeking an Material Coordinator in Topeka, Kansas!

The assignment duration is 18-24 months

The Mechanical Equipment Coordinator will lead a small local team to oversee the receiving, storage, setting, interconnection, and commissioning of process equipment for the new equipment. The Coordinator will manage and motivate contractors to complete the work on time, on budget, and according to spec, and will process field changes, communicate with others, and resolve technical questions. In most cases, OEM engineer(s) will also be on site to provide technical support. The candidate will work in a construction environment under the direction of the GE Resident Engineer.

Key Responsibilities - Field Mechanical Equipment Coordinator

Standard working time will be 10 hours for 5 days and 8 hours for 1 day. Monday - Saturday.

• Contact suppliers to understand shipment of materials.
• Coordinate unloading of large loads with contractors onsite.
• Properly inventory and store all materials onsite.
• Provide inventory tracking system for location of materials and when received.
• Submit security clearances for contractors and vendors to enter site.
• Create purchasing requisition to source materials for projects at the site.
• Manage risks and ensure that contractors install the equipment safely, to specification, on time, and on-budget.
• Thoroughly understand the equipment installation sequencing, assembly details, budget estimate, job scope, and schedule.
• Read and thoroughly understand all manufacturer assembly drawings and instructions for equipment installation, bid packages and drawings.
• Lead daily contractor meetings.

Required Skills and Knowledge- Field Mechanical Equipment Coordinator

• Good spoken and written English
• Able to read piping schematics and flow diagrams
• Must be able to demonstrate effective teamwork, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships inside and outside the team
• Thorough understanding of equipment rigging, leveling, alignment, grouting, welding and commissioning procedures
• Technical familiarity with the following systems is preferred:
  • Industrial piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation for: water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam, compressed air, and lubrication
  • Process ventilation and cooling, including humidity controlled systems
  • Dust collector systems

Education and Experience - Field Mechanical Equipment Coordinator

• Bachelor degree in a STEM field.
• Experienced user of AutoCAD two-dimensional drafting software
• 5 years of field equipment installation experience
• Familiarity with Gantt chart scheduling and software, as well as identification and mitigation of schedule risks
