Organization Background:The Inner City Education Foundation, known as ICEF Public Schools, is a nonprofit charter school network serving communities in the South Los Angeles area for 25 years. ICEF Public Schools operates seven high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle, and high schools serving over 2,000 scholars from TK-12th grade.ICEF's mission is to educate and empower courageous leaders to pursue their full potential in college, career, and life by providing a community that honors each student's unique identity, fosters academic excellence, nurtures healthy minds, and inspires critical thinkers.Position Description:Under the guidance of the CEO, the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications will oversee ICEF’s brand identity. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, entrepreneurial individual to form ICEF’s marketing strategy and manage its brand, directly following a robust strategic planning process which resulted in a new mission, vision for impact, and brand look. This leader will be expected to ensure alignment and consistency in ICEF’s image and message across all digital and physical collateral, and support critical functions such as school enrollment and teacher recruitment with strong, consistent messaging about ICEF’s value proposition in an increasingly crowded market.. The leader will also support internal communications, building stronger alignment and understanding across its seven schools. This leader will need to be able to present and analyze data, especially analytics, that demonstrate the reach and perception of our external communicationThis individual will be considered a senior leader at ICEF and will work closely with its senior leadership team to build culture and collaborate with all other departments within ICEF.Reporting:This position reports to the CEO.FLSA Status: ExemptPay Cycle: 12 monthsSalary: Commensurate with Experience ($105,000-$115,000)Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 403b Retirement Plan with up to 10% matchStrategy and Vision Setting Responsibilities
  • Develop a vision and formulate short- and long-term plans for communications and marketing strategy.
  • Create and manage ICEF’s annual strategic marketing budget, aligned with its overall strategic goals.
  • Raise the visibility of ICEF by supporting, expanding, and managing the brand throughout available channels to promote teacher recruitment, and educational interest, drive enrollment and ensure public awareness of the success of ICEF.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to promote the ICEF story to key stakeholders including prospective parents, donors, community leaders, job candidates, etc..
  • Manage internal communications across the organization, including ghost-writing for the CEO.
  • Provide regular, data-informed updates to ICEF’s senior leadership team and Board of Directors on how ICEF is tracking against its brand awareness, marketing, recruiting, and enrollment goals
Creative Duties
  • Oversee and create engaging communications pieces consistent with ICEF’s brand, such as one-pagers, newsletters, direct mail, annual reports, advertising, etc tailored to the appropriate audience and purpose (e.g. enrollment, recruiting, prospective donors, supporters, etc.).
  • Oversee direct reports, setting clear performance expectations and regularly reviewing performance; recommend and oversee relevant vendor relationships (e.g. PR, advertising)
  • Create and distribute quarterly newsletters and regular internal communications.
  • Manage updates/revisions for the ICEF website, keeping the content present, engaging, and relevant.
  • Expand our social media presence and refine our tactics by working with our schools to tell a strong and consistent story.
  • Oversee network-wide social media profiles, including Facebook and Instagram pages, to promote advancement, enrollment, and marketing efforts.
  • Keep informed of local and national education news. Support the CEO and members of the senior leadership team with timely communication on current events and ongoing communication needs.
  • Manage all media requests and facilitate interviews, as needed, with appropriate ICEF staff.
  • Develop and manage external relations through involvement in relevant local, state, and national educational initiatives.
  • Identify and attend strategic events, including city council, neighborhood council, school board, and community events, to increase the visibility of and familiarity with ICEF.
  • Develop targeted outreach strategies for engaging with key elected officials, leveraging the voices of our students, families, and staff.
  • Support the work of the Board on all communications and external relations activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience (required)
  • Strong background in marketing fundamentals with 5 years of experience
  • Proven track record as a leader and collaborator; direct management experience is a plus
  • Ability to break down complex projects into actionable goals, targets, and milestones, and can manage self and others to these
  • Strong writer (please submit writing samples with application) and demonstrated ability to communicate across different channels (creating and giving presentations, bullet point email updates, etc.)
  • Aptitude for strategy, savvy with data, and adaptability: ability lead and create structure from ambiguity with limited direction, ability to understand what is and is not working (first to admit when it is not) and why, and make decisions accordingly
  • Knowledge of K-12 education (direct experience not required) as well as working in and with the communities we serve at ICEF
  • Knowledge of how to grow social media presence and analyze what tactics are working
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
  • Experience executing multiple high-priority projects, producing high-quality deliverables on time
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with negotiation and demonstrable ability to influence others
  • Effective teamwork orientation with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies, including leadership, school leaders and staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Able to think critically and anticipate the needs of diverse customers
  • Able to develop, document, and implement internal systems and processes to increase effectiveness of the entire team and to enable collaboration
